Ive got type 1 diabetes controlled reasonably well by multiple daily injections (lantus twice daily and novorapid when I eat).

Ive seen a couple of people talking about using inuslin to help build muscle and Ive personally noticed I seem to make quicker gains at the gym than the friend I go with

I was wondering if anyone knew the science behind this?

I mean if I have to live with diabetes, I might as well use insulin to my advantage as best I can

Insulin prevents the breakdown of muscle protein so you make more muscle and it has the bulk effect. It also increases the level of glycogen which is carbs.

It's very dangerous to misuse your insulin in an attempt to bulk up. I highly recommend you don't do that mostly because diabetes scares the hell outta me. I've had a few friends with type 1 and anytime their sugar levels get above 400, I start getting freaked out. You should DEFINITELY watch your sugar levels after your workout.
