Is someone building profiles and gathering info on us?

I don't want to sound paranoid, but lately I've been seeing posts entitled, "What kind of car do you drive," "what do you do for a living?" and a variety of other questions about our lives. What do questions like these really matter, unless there are some gold digging frauds out their trying to find out more about our net worth? I even saw a posting entitled "Would you have sex with a minor?" or something like that.

RJ can be fun but I really don't see why other members need to delve into our private lives. Is this a valid concern or do the posters just want to post something fun on RJ?

I think your concerns are valid. I'm another forum and we've developed a conspiracy that Hollywood writers are skimming the site for content. Like our personal anecdotes/experiences and 1-line zingers that we throw at each other.

Also, it's becoming more obvious that news sources are turning to link aggregation sites like Reddit and Fark for story ideas and commentary to rip off.

As for the topics here, I think they're mostly harmless. It's the same type of idle chit chat topics you would discuss with people you've met for the first time. But one should always think about what they post on the internet. You don't want to tell too much about yourself. Not unless you enjoy being the target for real life stalkers or identity thieves.

I agree that those threads are probably harmless in their intentions. I do often question why people are so willing to post in the forums about drag queen and porn star names that often come from information used in security questions. I don't even think that usually the OP of those threads have bad motives in starting the forum, but they do get hundreds of views and many people here have 'friended' RJ guys on other sites, including Face Book where many people use their real name and make mistakes like making a lot of personal information public.

It's not they're asking question like your mother's maiden name, where you went to for elementary school, the name of the restaurant when you had your first date, your first pet's name, or the last four digits of your social.

When I see those questions I am emailing Chris.

There is actually truth to the idea that both prospective and established Directors and Screenwriters etc, hire people to gather information via Internet Forums, but mostly to gather and implement innovative ideas into mainstream Films/TV.

Interesting proposition. If you read someone's forum posts on here, especially someone who's prolific, you will be able to piece together a relatively accurate personal and/or psychological profile of that person. I'd submit that that profile is even more accurate than that person's public proflie on RJ.
