    Okay.

So I work out in a gym, and run 3-4 days a week outside. I barely consider myself a jock, however doesn't there seem to be a sudden surge in guys who are honest and open about their complete lack of any physical activity on this site?
What the hell! Where is RJ advertising that's bringing in everyone?

I don't know what you mean about lack of physical exercise.

Lots of us, me included, have pointed out that we have no intention of becoming obsessive bodybuilders, but I think everyone on here has fitness as a goal.

How are you defining this lack?

I think we should get General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker to testify regarding this surge. I have many questions.

I work out 4-5Xweek, mostly with free weights and wear a jock. If that doesn't qualify me as a RJ, so be it. And I still play basketball, racquetball and swim as well.

I think Kirk needs a much closer inspection. Please step into the examining room, if you would.

Maybe he's having what I'm having--people who are completely honest that they never work out and are mostly just interested in muscular guys. I've had a few conversations with some guys who just CAN'T be convinced that everyone in the gym isn't staring at them and judging.

I had another guy explain how he can't lift, has a concave chest, and then chastised me for being attracted to muscular guys.

I'm certainly no bodybuilder, but I work out frequently and think that this website is meant for those who are interested in active fitness. I don't think we should exclude others necessarily because they don't like fitness, I mean, how can we blame them for wanting to meet the members of this site? But I do think that they have to recognize that unfortunately, in the grand scheme of this website, they will be overlooked when compared to whoever is Man of the Day, Chizzad, or whomever else people come across.

At the risk of sounding Clintonian, it depends on what you think constitutes a jock.

Not here, but in other venues I've heard some guys say that you have to play a sport to be a jock. By that reckoning, I dare say I couldn't call myself a jock unless you count an occasional recreational love of swimming. I used to belong to a bowling league but I'm not sure if that's sport enough to be called a jock.

But in the banner of the site, right below the very prominent "REALJOCK" is the qualifier "Gay Fitness Community". So if a jock is someone who is interested in or regularly involved in physical exercise to improve personal fitness, then I guess that would make me a jock since I'm in the gym 5-6 days a week for a couple of hours each day.

I stretch, do floor exercises for my abs, lift, and do cardio. I most certainly break a sweat and have been gradually getting more and more fit over the past 9 months.

But all this reminds me of back and forth I've seen elsewhere in the gay community about who does or doesn't "really belong" in various niche communities. Bear sites where there's an ongoing debate about whether you have to BE a bear or can simply be an admirer.

    (shrug)

I just enjoy my working and what I'm learning here about how others are improving their physical fitness.

Hmm, maybe we're talking about the people that are on here to find hookups, sex, etc. Things that should probably be searched for on adam4adam or manhunt.

Ironic. I was thinking about this too myself.

Me neither. I can barely tolerate watching sports. But I still cherish the dream that someday if I can find enough people, I'll be fit enough to play. hehe

That said, I really am here for the fitness tips and the forums. LOL Pardon my un-jockishness, but I am a beginner after all. icon_razz.gif Hope I can be fit enough soon to deserve this site. LOL

BTW, I found this site through google. Honest. I was googling for a fitness site, then for some reason I added 'gay' before it. I dunno, I just thought that there HAS to be a fitness site dedicated to gays. So here I am. icon_razz.gif

I get you're meaning Briar and you're right to a certain extent
but what are you proposing that there's a test to get on here?
I look at it this way
guys go to the gym...and there is every kind of level of fitness in there
    so this is no different

And here I always thought the marketing and name of this site served as a nod to that frequent fetish/meme in gay culture - the jock.

Yes, it says Gay Fitness Community, but even fitness can be a spectator sport. Part of the reason I dislike gyms is the social element, which is fine in small doses, but I find that there is usually TOO MUCH socializing at the gym and not enough working out. (At least at the local and larger corporate gyms.)

Perhaps the 'unfit' - as no one has ventured to thus far term them - arrive for inspiration. If so, the 'fit' should bear witness with kindness, grace, and style. (And by style I don't mean fashion. icon_neutral.gif )

I found out about this site from a guy who messaged me on DaddyHunt (do you really need to ask what I was doing there)...lol, he was a son though, a really cute one, and he sent me his RealJock link so I could see hot pics of him posing. At first, I thought this site was like Manhunt or A4A, but upon inspection, found that it offered a forum, a sense of community, and prohibited public nudity. I thought it was a nobel try at an actual meeting ground on the internet for gay men that isn't centered around sex. I was impressed and still am, even if sometimes you queens say things that make me wish you'd just talk less and pose nude more. The thread about which kind of underwear are dealbreakers definitely made me think that!icon_wink.gif

I always found the guys on here to be much friendlier and down-to-earth and accepting of ALL types then the average gay site, and not all about hooking up. I wouldn't want the site to become "elitist" at all. The more the merrier, and perhaps those less athletically inclined or into health & fitness can learn something or gain some motivation from those of us who are.

I think the issue is not the mambership, but more the purpose of the site. I think some of the workout advice and nutrition and discussion is sometimes not the draw. Moreso, its seeing how many people think you are hot and instant messaging them etc.

I love the message boards, but they are not usually about fitness. The chat is fun too, but again not all about fitness. I would like to see more discussion about the "jock" part of things.

Perhaps a workout partner matching application. Like match.com for your workout.

I found out about this site from a friend I met at AfterElton.com. I exercise nearly every day, including team sports, and I love watching sports. If I did not watch sports or the news I would seriously think of getting rid of my TV.

Physical activity is very important in life as people are now starting to realize with the explosion of health problems caused by obesity (e.g. Type 2 Diabetes). I hope RJ continues to focus on physical health as well as mental health and wellbeing. After all one impacts the other.
