In light of the recent Weiner scandal, the nytimes had this article hypothesizing about women in office. It analyzed to a certain extent how women are less likely to engage in lewd sexual behavior that tarnishes their political status. The subject to this forum topic is a quote from the article by a woman thats part of an organization that deals with women in politics...I think its a very interesting viewpoint...I happen to agree with it for the most part...but it made me wonder why gay men and women run for office, and wether any of them have ever fallen victims to public shame for ethical wrongdoings...

P.S. here is the link to the article

imo, most politicians do believe they want to make a difference when they first get started, but then it just becomes about themselves and maintaining a position of power.

That is a bit of conjecture in two directions.

Timbales saidimo, most politicians do believe they want to make a difference when they first get started, but then it just becomes about themselves and maintaining a position of power.

I agree with this...but would also like to add that IMO, many politicians go into to office with high ideals and goals only to be shot down by the opposing party.
Hence, little, if anything, actually gets done.
