A MEMBER WAS "BOOTED" TODAY....

Yes, Geezer departed RJ earlier today, not because of his politics, but because his vile, nasty comments were beyond the pale. I'd had more than I was going to accept. It is one thing to disagree with others here and even respond in a way to show some contempt in the others' position. It is another to belittle the opposition with every nasty comment you can conceive.

This goes for both both the right and the left on this site.

While this thread isn't about "the hope we all behave nicely".... I would encourage everybody who particpates to think a little bit before they refer to the other side as "shit" or something equally as nasty. A right leaning member, who I happen to respect, observed that it is hard to act or "quiet" a member with the same political views when that person says something
inappropriate to one on the other side. While I don't advocate "member policing" so to speak. I do think it is important to remember that we are
all RJ members and yes, with different views. We all have something
relevant to say and there is actually much to be learned.
I'm glad we have the other thread, "How we discuss things"....

Please, just think before you start in. This is our site.
    Thanks.

For me the reason why Geezer had to go has nothing to do with politics, or even with posting negative attacks.
What was unacceptable about Geezer's behavior on the blogs was his habitual posting of attacks that were full of gay bashing.
He attacked RJ members with comments calling them stuff like candyass pansy limpwrited f*gs and every kind of negative gay stereotype he could think of.
Attacks like that shouldn't be tolerated on RJ.
If a progressive posted that kind of shit - I would call for his removal too.

This website should be about reinforcing a positive image of gay men.
If we can't say NO to the perpetuation of ugly and demeaning stereotypes of gay men here are on RJ - how can we expect society to say NO?

    1. You can get booted/banned from this site? What??

    2. Who is Geezer? lol

Geezer was unhinged. I blocked him the day I re-joined this site. I read some weird crap here, but Geezer was special.

I'm surprised it took this long.

Maybe the axiom should be you can attack a idea , but when you comment about the person its beyond the pale.

Netiquette is something you can easily look up on google to brush up on.

I would say some feel emboldened to do whatever they want. Say whatever they want. And are very quick to comment on what they think they know of the person, in addition using hateful language.

Hopefully this is a new era of moderation and things will be more civil and more focused on a cordial discussion of ideals.

Really? From what I saw, he was SOFT compared to all of the following:

    rickrick91
    tropicalmark
    southbeach1500
    realifedad
Christian73, who can't even debate, just attack.

The list goes on. I think it WAS because of his politics and some liberal didn't know how to use the "Ignore His Posts" function, so they just complained to admin when Geezer said something they didn't like.

Your not in any danger, because no way are you rising (lowering) to Geezer's level.

Somehow I have a feeling that Geezer went off on a tangent just after I commented indirectly about his previous attacks directed at me. Maybe not, but the sequence sure makes it look like it.

Can I see some examples? I've seen bad behavior and general non-lulz nastiness from all those I listed. I've only seen a bit from geezer.

FTF I think he was using words that are derogatory towards gay men, hence the boot.

Not for the words, but being retarded enough to use derogatory words towards gay men on a gay forum.

I say fag all the time on here... I don't directly call people fags but I say stuff like, "political correctness is for retarded fags," to try to poke fun at the uber-sensitive PC ideology and culture that seems to permeate much of the site. If he called people fags then yeah, against ToS, but then luvitohateit and tazo995 should also both get the boot for having called black people "monkeys" in the past.

You said that??? That just doesn't sound like you at all!!

And I thought my comment about him "using" his Michelle Bachmann inflatable doll was over the edge and would land me in the RJ penalty box!

Thank you HndsmKansan. I, along with many others, appreciate this action.

Before today, I have never reported a member before. I have no problem defending myself, but as Chris said for a member of RJ to use profane, anti-gay slurs against a member of this board is beyond the pale.

Also, I'm fairly sure another member was booted today, a reaper or BELLO sock account probably got all of five posts in before getting fried... then again, that isn't worth its own thread in your eyes because you think troll folk are second-class citizens. IT'S SO UNFAIR

What exactly was this post that was so horrible it got him fried? Is there any way I can screencap it for Encyclopedia Dramatica?

It wasn't one post. It was 10-15 posts were he called me a "fag", "cocksucker", and "limpwristed" over and over. I really don't give a shit what anyone calls me, but this should be a space safe from anti-gay slurs. For me, it was the principle, not the personal angle that was important.

I may say a lot of shit and give members a hard time, but I would never use a gay slur and despite all of our run-ins, I've never reported you or even considered doing so. We're all grownups here. Just leave the homophobic bullshit at the door.
