    Kentucky? Land of bible-thumping hypocrites?
    No surprise there...

Please. This could have happened anywhere, it is the people, not the state.

Kentucky isn't even really that bible-thumping compared to several other states. An openly gay man just won the position of Mayor for a city there (I can't remember which).

I know that, but it's fun to pick on Kentucky because a lot of people there don't even know what state KFC came from. (can't find the video proof of that, but saw in on YT once).

This happened in Hazard County? Better send them Duke Boys down to the Department of Recreation to kick some ass.

If Amy Poehler had been running that department this would have never happened.

Too bad the couple wasn't interracial as well...then the pool people would have scored a perfect 10 on their being-an-asshole routine.

    Bravo, pool people....bravo.

I've been to this area several times in my previous work with Housing Authorities and while it is true that there is a greater percentage of fundamentalist christians in this area, there are fundamentalist christians throughout the states and anywhere they exist, they would act and do the same things as this worker at the pool.

The people working in that department must be from Eagleton. If we could only get Ron Swanson to care, I think he would set that department straight for sure.

"The man stated that what he was doing was in the Bible and he could do it."

I'm beginning to wonder who is "developmentally challenged" here.

No, no, no! The Bible clearly says that mentally challenged gay people can't be allowed to swim! That's very clear! Ya just gotta know how to read it!

Its in the book of Makinitupasugoalong. icon_razz.gif

I grew up in Kentucky...southeastern KY (Hazard) and northwestern KY (Louisville/Lexington/Metro Cincinnati) are two really different places. This could have happened anywhere...unfortunately, ignorance is universal..but this does need to be addressed appropriately.

What the Hell are you talking about? Ugly man in what way? Have you met him in person, as we have?

My partner & I have had dinner with him. He's a total doll. And charming and fun company, too. He was also kind enough to take aerial photos of a waterside restaurant on the Gulf for us, where we ate with friends, and I posted those pics here in another thread.

So you better explain your "very ugly man" statement, buddy, about a good friend of ours. Who's a helluva lot better looking than any pic I've ever seen of you. And with a 1000% better personality, too. Paul is a perfect gay gentleman and an angel, and others here can fill in the blank about what you are ______.

The City of Hazard is in poverty stricken coal mining country of Eastern Kentucky. What do you expect from a rinky-dink coal town with crushing poverty and low educational levelsicon_question.gif

Hopefully this disabled gay couple will haul the City of Hazard into court and sue that isolated coal town for every cent its government has got and cost that town an entire yearly operating budget.

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidDang, "one" person (a bible thumping blue collar maintenance technician employee) in Kentucky denies two homosexual men and now an entire state is being trashed by several people in this thread.

I agree. I lived in Kentucky for 2 years. A lovely State, and lovely people. I even met Colonel Sanders!

But this incident is unacceptable, and has to be addressed, do you not agree?

Perhaps a local aberration, I dunno. But it can't pass. yes? Let's not let this stain besmirch the entire State. Let's see how they handle it.

I don't want the employee fired, especially because I want him to see those gay couples enter the facility everyday he's working. The other reason is because I don't want to see anyone lose their job right now.

One thing that pisses me off is that KFC uses "Sweet Home Alabama" for its theme song in commercials.

    WTF?

PS: The headline "Disable Couple Ejected From Pool" inspired a funny image.

Group Retracts Claims Regarding City's Handling Of Gay Couple Removed From Public Pool

    [quote]
after the media spotlight from the incident diminished, the city’s position changed. City Attorney Paul R. Collins, who is responsible for changing city rules, reversed his stance, demanding that the Kentucky Equality Federation’s Jordan Palmer produce a Kentucky state law saying the pool could not discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

“Unfortunately, Kentucky’s civil rights code provides more protections for smokers than it does for LGBT people,” said Palmer. “It is perfectly legal to fire someone, or deny someone access to public accommodations, because they are gay or lesbian. However, it is not legal to deny someone access to public accommodations because they smoke.”
