I will go one of these upcoming weekends... (I live in Mass, and camping is OK with me if there are no rooms available, so, not so much planning required...)

lol provincetown in cape cod (Mass) I just heard about this "gay" friendly area when I was visiting my sister in Boston for graduation. After her and her friends told me how gay it was (little did they know that is actually appealing to me lol) I figured I would check it out since its not too far from NY.

Hmmm. Perhaps I should drop in for a look.

But I have no idea where to stay if I were to go (budget conscious here).

Sorry, likely going late September again. Anything before Labor Day is a madhouse there, overbooked & overpriced. We'll be either flying there on a float plane a friend from Boston has, or else taking the passenger ferry. You really don't need a car in P-town.

Go on line and look for rooms for rent. The farther out of town you stay the cheaper the place. you can get a single room with bath pretty cheap in one of the boarding houses. you do not need something fancy since you will not be in your room too much (sleep and costume change)

What sort of events are going on there - is it just for pride week, or throughout July?

Just got back from PT. It was beautiful, peaceful, and quite addictive, except that it rained the last two days that I was there. The people were super friendly. I regret that I flew in from DC to Boston and then to PT; I should have just taken the fast ferry from Boston instead of that scary 10-seater Cape Air. Awesome B&B's, although the really good ones are not cheap but definitely well worth it. Bear Week is July 9-17, and Carnival is August 14-19 this year. I am thinking of going back in July just to see what Bear Week is all about.

So anyone know what the areas outside of town are called? Like is it another town or still in ptown? Let me know because I am off next week and want to go there. Plus bear week starts in 2 Friday's so I can at least see the Fri and sat days of bear week.

Not sure what you mean -- it's Cape Cod, and P-town a relatively small place on the tip, as this interactive map will show you. Beyond that are even smaller towns, some with lodging, although the first thing you'll see as you drive out of P-town are rather bland new houses among the dunes, I guess some of them seasonal homes.

On the north side of the tip where P-town sits are some nice beaches with parking, but with minimal facilities, and the water can be cold. There are other beaches all along the Cape, again as maps will show.

Check local P-town tourist guides, with the Tourism Office on Commercial St a good place to visit. If you're staying overnight make reservations now. You want something on or just off Commercial, the main strip. Lots of quaint Victorian-style guesthouses, but pricey, and most with no parking, you must use lots some blocks away at extra cost.

A less pricey modern alternative is the "Boatslip" with its own pool, bay view & beach, weekend tea dances, and free on-site parking. It's been renovated, but some don't like that modernness, preferring more intimate character.

Thanks man. I know I can stay with my sister who lives in Boston at least, but hoping I can get a cheap place to stay in ptown, since I would guess Boston is somewhat far. Or far enough that I wouldn't wanna travel back to change/sleep/shower

This would b my first time there and didn't know how big ptown is and if there's other towns nearby in cape cod, so I guess a place to stay anywhere in cape cod would work... Can't imagine that being cheap.

    Thanks again for your help.

Depending on where in Boston, it's something like 120 miles to P-town, half of it freeway, half of it local single lane on the Cape. Our own plans for this September, since we'll be staying in Boston, too, is to take the passenger ferry. A nice experience in itself (weather permitting), you might see some whales. Just have a windbreaker with you. It brings you right up to a wharf off Commercial St, and then you can get a taxi if it's too far to carry your luggage.

Once in P-town I see no need for a car, in fact it's a hassle, unless you do want to see the north beach, which is a little over a mile, and some more of the Cape. Otherwise it's all walkable, quite compact. Not having a car also means those guest houses with no parking aren't an issue, and you don't have to spend money for lot parking.

The GayCities app for an iPhone (not sure about Android) is very accurate for P-town (especially since almost EVERYTHING is gay). And correction: I said the weekend tea dance at the Boatslip. I forgot this is "season" already, rather than after Labor Day when we go, so the tea dance (free to guests, a charge for others) is weekdays, too.

Lol this is what one of my good (straight) friends from college told me when I asked him about ptown. Be lives on the cape but is 1.5 house from ptown, which sucks because otherwise I would stay with him.

    Anyway he wrote

dude, you're going to have a hard time man go on craigslist and offer yourself up for a place to stay honestly, I'm not really kidding. i don't think you realize how hard it is to find a place at this time of year there... You can either get a campsite or sleep in your car, or find a sugar daddy hotels are completely out of the question

Lol funny but not the options I was hopeing for. Guess camping or sleeping on the beach are my main options and if I needa shower, I am sure I could find someone to lick me clean... Lol

I have not been to 4th of July Ptown in a long time.

I'll be on the upper Cape, but don't think I'll make it to Ptown.
