I have been in Denver for three years and have not attended a Pride event and I don't plan to attend this year (happens to be this weekend). Is there really a need for it? Thoughts?

I refuse to go to ANY pride in Arizona because it just lures the undesirables out of the wood works.

PHX Prides is always fat, annoying, drunk Native Americans and bitchy, rude lesbians that have children.

I dont hang out with them in bars or in social time I am not going to hang out in parks.

    Its awful here.

There are two sides to every coin.

I used to question it, thinking "Sexuality shouldn't be an issue of pride or shame, it should just be another facet of a person's life."

More recently, though, I've come to think of it more as an expression of individual pride, not necessarily of the culture. I'm proud of my recent life choices and proud of who I am... I don't let the stigmas of my sexuality hold me back. That's what I think pride is really about.

They need to know we're out there. So yes it's important.

I'll support anything that lets me listen to Aisha Tyler tell jokes live for only 10 bucks.

I went to my first Pride parade and festival in West Hollywood 35 years ago. It was fun..the guys were hot...I was wasted and that was the last one for many years.
Recently, (within the last 10 years) I have been to two in Palm Springs and three on Long Beach. Probably because of my age, the only thing that was fun was the eye candy. The festivals are made up of too many drunks, too many lesbos, too many twinks. There has been a fight at every one I have attended with the exception of the first one in Hollywood.
Last time, in Long Beach, some bitch pulled out a gun on the dance floor and threatened to shoot another bitch because she looked at her butt-ugly g/f.
That killed it for me... forever.

As long as I am forced to endure CHRISTMAS and EASTER and any number of other inane and meaningless holidays, I INSIST on having PRIDE! I enjoy PRIDE more than any of those other commercial holidays, because PRIDE has MEANING to me! Sadly, PRIDE is the single time of the year that GLBT is OK in public.....
COLUMBUS PRIDE is on June 18, 2011
BAT n' Rouge is on sunday......icon_biggrin.gif

The public, you want your rights slowly widdled away? Then everyone stop having pride parades and be forgotten.

When Pride events are covered by the media what is being shown?? ....people dressed in outlandish outfits and people barely clothed...honestly, I don't think Pride is a great image for the gay community and it has nothing to do with keeping our rights.

Oh it has a lot to do with keeping our rights. That 'show' gets attention, it's what any side of an argument needs to stay relevant unfortunately.

I am borrowing this from a member who posted this in another thread. I think it brings up some very valid points concerning pride festivals and those that have a problem with them.

OK, well one of the messages was about why there can be shows like Girls Gone Wild and no one is saying straights should lose their rights because of it, so why would SOME men parading around scantily mean gays should lose their rights because of it.

I think you should sidestep your personal reaction to voice and listen to this message.

So much has been said here already that's completely missing the point, I don't know where to begin. First of all, the person who said we need Pride parades to remind "them" that we exist, I say "seriously?" You actually think a parade of half naked queens covered in glitter is the way to remind "them" that we exist? Wrong. You remind them we exist by living a life that is genuine and sincere about who you are. If everyone gay person came out of the closet, it would be quite obvious how many of us exist.

Now to the video of the person who looks like a cross between Axil Rose and little Laura Ingals from Little House on the Prairie......I call bullshit to your reasoning too. Once again he/she makes all these "us" and "them" statements and talks about how we "should" be able to do this and that without losing our rights. Well, this ain't no perfect world, so you need to take all those well meaning "shoulds" and find somewhere you can live your life off of them. Yes, we SHOULD be able to have a parade, give our condoms and fuck in the streets but that ain't reality. The point is, straight people hold our rights in their hands, and the longer we act like freakazoids, the longer the fight for our rights is going to take. And don't give me this shit about Girls Gone Wild or Mardi Gras. Not a fair comparison at all because these events don't claim to represent who straight people are as a whole, but Pride events DO!
