Man of the Day... how do you decide?

What makes you vote someone for MotD? How popular on the site they are? How many muscles they've got? How attractive you find them? The fact that you like their posts?

Well, I received an IM asking for me to vote for someone. Was going to, but I had already voted someone for today. At first, I was really happy that someone was IM'ing me. People don't really talk to me too much. Either I don't have enough muscles yet or maybe it's the fact that I don't post too much. Anyway, I open the IM and it's just a guy asking for a vote for MotD.

Anyway, main question is, what kind of guy gets a vote for you for MotD?

And while I have a thread, just wanted to say Hello! My name's Kristian and it's nice to meet you. I haven't formally made an introduction thread since I've become active on this site so this'll be it.

I've never really voted before, but if I ever do, it'll be for the underdog and NOT the guy who got it for the 134878965849758439th time.

I most of the time miss voting for the motd now and I think that is because of the change in the layout of the front page that moved it so you don't see the motd box there all the time. When I do vote, it is usually for someone I know or someone that I respect from the forums and that doesn't necessarily mean someone who's opinion I usually agree with in the threads. If it is someone that I don't know and am not familiar with then it is usually someone that is up for the vote has a very good and completed profile. Never vote for anyone that I don't know and only has pictures but have not filled out any of the information fields and 'about me' in the profile.

I vote for the Man of the Day for different reasons. Someone might have posted an interesting comment or started a very cool topic here at the forums.
Sometimes I am asked to vote for an individual. Sometimes I see a profile which is awesome. There are so many reasons to vote.

I'll vote for someone if they are a buddy or on my hotlist. Other than that it's always for the underdog.

Yes, I have to agree on this post. If I see someone who is on my Buddy List, they usually get my vote. Lately, I haven't even checked to see who's running.

It's kind of random for me. I try to vote for someone who has never been voted "MOTD? before.

    Hey Kristian!

Nice to meet you, too. We get the now and then request to vote for someone. Sometimes we ask why, and often we just go to the nominee's profile and see what they're all about.
Then we reply to the email explaining we've voted already, if we had, or that we didn't understand what the person was being MOTD for, if we didn't . A lot of times it was obvious this was a really cool guy that we thought should be highlighted.
Sometimes it's just to lift a friend's spirits, and you know what?
    It does.
They make the ol' front page for a day, and those that may not have seen the person before, do now and it makes yet another opportunity for people to meet.

    Goofy, isn't it? icon_wink.gif

It's funny that you ask this question because the same thing happened to me today! Someone IM'd me and I wasn't here to receive it and I think that the only reason they did was to recruit me to vote for them. I think I have voted once or twice since I joined RJ in 2009.

When I first joined, the MOTD was randomly selected and I always thought that was fair. It gives EVERYONE the same chance to be selected! I know I'm a bit older than most and don't have the same musculature but isn't this site about empowering us?

Anyway it's very nice to meet you and thanks for the thread!

    Hi Carlos,

We were voted three times as MOTD. We made our profile members only which disqualifies us now, as we think there are a lot of great unknowns on here that deserve a shot more than ol' us. (it was a shock to be MOTD. After all, it's old us.)

    1. Sometimes people campaign for them either secretly or out in the open on the forum thread.

    2. This is usually based on looks and/or personality.

    3. People are definitely more likely to vote the newbies or people who haven't won before. I think....icon_confused.gif

Oh right is that the rule? I have a profile that only members can see AND I'm not verified yet.

You'd think they'd just go ahead and verify me anyhoo, since I'm clearly me, albeit I need to refresh my photos as my latest is over a year old (probably after my next holiday tho - I'm as white as the driven snow right now, which is shocking at this time of year).

I'm too lazy to do that whole verification process and think that after all this time they'd trust me. I'm hardly Bellooooo.

Hey I have a question, in case anyone knows: why is it that sometimes when I log on, I get a flurry of IMs and email messages, yet other times I get nothing at all?

It's always either one or the other: a deluge or a drought.

What's that all about? Do they put unverified guys' pics on the front page or somewhere sometimes???

    I appreciate all the responses!

    Thank you Doug and Carlos!

And Carlos, I feel the same. I joined this site specifically because I thought it could aid me in being healthier and I figured it would be empowering and people would be equal even if you weren't jacked. But, it's the opposite most of the time and the only ones getting any attention are the guys with the huge muscles and stuff. Not that I have anything against it, but it does make me feel under qualified to even be a member lol.

Anyway, to everyone else.. thank you also. Since I'm not too familiar with this site, I'm not sure if MotD was anything important and if there were people who weren't to be voted for. I think I'll just read a guys profile to see what they're all about and I'll make sure they're verified lol.

I never really think about it, but I know for sure I don't vote for people who:

    1. Aren't verified
    2. Have less than 3 pictures
    3. Didn't bother to write anything in the about me section

Then I just pick one, usually I'll go for the guy I already know or one I would like to get to know... haha.

If a friend asks for my vote or for a vote for a friend of his, I will generally oblige. In all cases so far, these guys have qualities I consider worthy of recognition.

If someone I don't know makes the same request, I may oblige if their profile indicates they deserve recognition.

Otherwise, while not essential, I like to see some interest in health and fitness, this being a health and fitness oriented site. If there is forum participation, itself is a plus factor for my vote, I like to see messages that make a contribution and are not divisive, inflammatory, or just plain stupid.

That's the issue tho isnt it, if your rewarding someone for achivement.

I used to be a scrawnmy little thing and struggled to get my fitness up.

In all i think dont follow the crowd, vote for who you think is right for you etc.
