My partner and I are ready to invest in a portable sling. Anyone have any recommendations as to where we can get one? We're in the Southeast.

Any GOOD leather shop should have a few styles to choose from.

Mind if I ask why you want a portable one? My last roommates and I installed a semi-permanent one in our rental house and turned the basement into a dungeon. It really wasn't much effort to rig up a few eyelets on rafters, and grabbed a few chains that were more sturdy than the ones the sling came with. It was far cheaper, and we felt a lot more comfortable on it than portable stands that I've tried. The portable ones I've used have seemed to be a big enough pain in the ass (the slings guys, the slings) to move around that they might as well be stationary anyway.

    We had this sling:

Mr S Leather and MG Leather also sells stands, but at the price, I'd probably build my own, or have a welding buddy build me one. Again though, if you have a few rafters you don't mind putting a few eyelets in, it's well worth it. If you're renting, you can always putty the holes over before you move. It'd save you several hundred dollars and feel a lot safer when getting your ass pounded. You'll understand what I mean when you feel the rafters shaking, or much worse, the sling stand moving (voice of experience).

Listen to PyroTech's post. I've never tried one, but I feel like it would be an interesting experience.

Also, every one of my alternative friends who have tried this have said the same thing.

How do these things work and what is the point?

    My gosh, I'm so vanilla.

What Pyro said about the construction of one. icon_razz.gif

If you'd like me to tell you how they work, I'd have to have a very grown up conversation and tell you how the birds and the bee's work.

Oh my, you DEFINITELY have to hop in one. The sling allows the bottom to be at perfect dick height of the top, and is adjustable so that the bottom can lay back comfortably, and the top can stand comfortably. Many slings come with stirrups so that the bottom can rest their feet in them while getting pounded, so there's never a need for anyone to hold legs up / back. If there are no stirrups, the bottom can rest his feet on the chains. The sling swings back and forth a bit, so the top can really ram in. It's also setup so that there is nothing in the way from the top getting in as far into the bottom as possible. This is all assuming the bottom is laying on his back on the sling in missionary position, but the bottom can always turn around on his stomach, position the legs to where they are resting on / in front of the rear chains, and hang his butt off the sling a bit so that he can be fucked doggie style, open as wide as he can get, again for maximum length of penetration.

Again, all of this is said with just a light description. A sling is something you really have to try, at least once, to understand the full benefit.

Because it's a fair question. Why do gay men have to be so obsessed with sex? I know a small percentage of straight couples buy slings too but it seems sex has to be the focal point of everything with most gay men.
