"Republicans pulled out of debt-reduction talks led by Vice President Joe Biden with a flourish on Thursday, blaming Democrats for demanding tax increases as part of a deal rather than accepting more than $1 trillion in cuts to health care for the elderly and other government programs."

Democrats want a balanced approach of budget cuts and tax hikes. Republicans want their way or the highway (drastic cuts only at the expense of the most vulnerable Americans).

We can raise the taxes all we want and it still won't solve the problem. We spend too much, that is why we are in the problem we are in to begin with.

The only way I would agree to a compromise with tax increases is if all of it is going towards the debt, otherwise the democrats will just find some new program to spend the incoming tax revenue on perpetuating the problem and not solving anything.

Republicans aren't concerned about a resolution. They just want to do damage to the economy so they can score political points. Only an idiot couldn't see what is motivating Republicans.

Yup. We need to raise revenue and cut spending. Both.

Interesting.Your Komrade Christian73 wrote something almost identical. Seems like you both are parroting the Democrat talking point du jour... icon_rolleyes.gif

Christian73 saidthe Republicans are actively trying to hurt the economy because they believe it will hurt Obama.

Nope. It's not a "talking point." It's just a statement of the facts obvious to anyone who is looking at the situation.

How else do you explain their refusal to even agree to their own proposals? Proposals they made right up until Obama embraced them. icon_rolleyes.gif

What "proposals" are you talking about?

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For starters, it was a Republican proposal for a "Public Mandate" to be included with a public health care program they were for several years ago. Now they are saying its illegal, but when it was their idea, it was to help their buddies in the insurance industry with millions more customers.

Now that Obama has it in his Health Care Program its all too expensive and illegal. This program has been shown to actually save money in the long haul by the Government branch charged with estimating future expenditures based on current or proposed policies.

But of course since its Obama's Idea its got to be wrong for the republicans

The republicans hurt themselves again by their current stand on not taxing the rich as part of budget proposals, they make it obvious to the public that they represent the rich and corps. not mainstream Americans.

this too will work in Obama's favor as long as he holds his ground. Here's hoping Obama has found more spine to stand up to this latest "its our way or nothing" action of the republicans.

Why do Republicans want to kill people with their Death Panels?
