He's another Dawkins-Harris-Dennet-Hitchens (ie, Four Cowboys) toadie/hack. He is dismissed.

It's also ironic that Crichton had some choice words for people like him (not atheists per se, but environmentalists); that they are every bit as fanatical as a religious fundamentalist, and they bear all the marks of religious zealotry.

I wonder if Paul could turn his own academic light on himself and report back on his own silliness and orthodoxy?

Remember this mag cover? It says more than I could in a ten-page essay:

I'd say atheists want a taller order from society which is why there is almost zero traction here in the US.

Yes, perhaps. They're in a snit about nothing (literally...).

Paul is saying "We're fed up!" But this latest article seems to be an attempt by him to remind everyone how profound his op-ed of April was. The problem is that no one remembers, or cares. This is one of the last refuges of the white Liberal - when someone doesn't listen to him, he charges that his civil rights are being violated.

And he had the nerve to compare himself to MLK sitting in a jail cell? Wigga, PLEASE.

So his op-ed got 81,000 "likes" on FaceBook. Meanwhile, "Dancing Kitty Gets Stuck in Vaccum Cleaner GIF" got 1 million "Likes." Again, who cares?

Maybe by you, and certain other believers of the Invisible Pal In The Sky, but lots of us feel the way he does.

"Dismissed", eh? Smugness and arrogance are always hallmarks of the deeply stupid.

Agreed. These people need to get themselves a new (and more productive) hobby.

    You said this once before.

You're talking about "feelings" now. But intellectually speaking, this guy has nothing new to say.

And it's really hard to feel sorry for a bunch of well-to-do white Liberals who want to compare their "struggle" to that of MLK, et al.

They can do some protesting when the mayor of Harrisburg tries to pray away the city's crushing debt:

Or when the guv'nor of Texas prays for rain.

Maybe. I find the best way to piss them off is to have no opinion about their beliefs.

Why do you have to use God's name to piss off someone? Why don't you just respect their beliefs and realize that we are not a theocracy, and atheists have no historical or Constitutional obligation to conform or hide their non-belief....

    Ok, riddle me this:

IF God/Goddess/Jesus/Allah/Quan-Yin/Zeus/FSM/{$deity} etc. do not exist...

...then why get bent out of shape over folks who believe?

If there is not higher power, then people who preach their gospel of {$deity} would be like those who preach a flat earth: their beliefs being not especially valuable, and otherwise harmless, since the "truth" is that there is not {$deity} and the earth is an oblate spheroid...

...of course, the earth is proven to be an oblate spheroid, whereas the utter absence and lack of a higher power/{$deity} cannot be conclusively proven.

Because people have been immersed in an attitude of victimization. It is somehow emotionally satisfying to be part of an "oppressed" group. It likely has to do with reward centers in the brain.

So here we see the absurdity of white Liberals from comfortable and privileged backgrounds claiming the same "struggle" as people who suffered actual injustice.

Once people gain some maturity, they lay such childishness aside.

What the fuck are you people even arguing about? It's a very bland article that's not offensive (or enlightening) in any way, and yet you guys are fighting about it. Are you pissed off because the guy is atheist or because he's a Liberal? Stop prancing around the issue and say what you mean.

Why do you feel so comfortable generalizing atheists as "white liberals"? Tha'ts pretty ignorant of you. And for you to say that atheists should just get over injustice you are not only ignoring the philosophy behind a democratic republic but advocating legalized ostracism. Atheists should just get comfortable pledging allegiance to God and swearing on Bibles [or Qurans!]. That's just foolish.

    Gotta agree with that...

the definition of a fanatic/extremist I once read was "someone who cant leave the subject alone even when you try to change it".... First time an atheist tried to "understand" my point of view, I gave up after a little while to keep explaining it, but he kept egging me on about it for hours, to the point where he just got pissed and walked off after the hundredth time I told him we differed in opinion and I didnt think it was important to agree and I wanted to forget about it

So I take it being an atheist is a bad thing then? icon_redface.gif

But seriously...what's everyone huffing and puffing about. You guys are clumping and generalizing. Atheists aren't angry because people say "God bless you", they're mildly annoyed at people's ignorant assumptions. Like these.
