If you start to drag in the late afternoon....what do you do about it?

I don't mean "drag" as in RuPaul's Drag Race... icon_biggrin.gif

Months ago I gave up coffee after noon (I was a 4 shot quad espresso at 2pm guy) and I have found that positively:

    --- I sleep better.
--- I have saved a lot of money ($50 bucks a month at least).

But the big negative is I do lag at 4pm which is the time I used to go to the gym. Now, I have to be there by 2pm or else I am too tired.

So, gentlemen.....anything you can recommend? Switching my gym time to the morning is not feasible and I am looking for a cure for the "lag". I tend to be pretty healthy guy- my morning coffee is my big vice so if we can keep the suggestions legal that would be great. icon_biggrin.gif

    Thanks.

OMG, this is exactly what happened to me today. Meant to get to the gym by 2pm, couldn't and now, at 4pm, I'm too tired and will have to go tomorrow. It's the downside of silverfoxdom.

I hate that time of day. I've got nothing but hampers of ironing to do- and my diet pill is wearing off!

Silverfox, You went from a "4shot quad espresso" to NOTHING?

My withdrawal headache would have been unbearable!

How about a less powerful caffeine booster; like a single cup or half cup of regular coffee or tea?

I say give yourself a little jolt to get into the gym and then wean yourself as gradually as you can. But you know your own willpower......and perhaps you don't do moderation??

If I start dragging in the afternoon I usually just remove the wig and heels.

silverfox1 saidSo, gentlemen.....anything you can recommend? ...my morning coffee is my big vice so if we can keep the suggestions legal that would be great.

Caffeine is my own poison, doctors have recognized it, and that it's also bad for my digestion. I didn't imagine it as an addiction, because I don't think about it, not a coffee aficionado. But as a morning routine I always did it, just automatic.

And then by mid-afternoon I'd crash. And start drinking Cokes, which gave me a sugar boost, plus the caffeine. And when I tried to totally stop as the doctors advised me I actually went into withdrawals. I was physically addicted to something and didn't know it!

But the withdrawals only lasted about 2 weeks, though the habit to want to have coffee each morning lingered. And what happened was that the afternoon crashes went away, because I wasn't starting with a morning caffeine peak, no more highs & lows. And my body seemed to adjust, and with eating well and exercise I had energy 24/7. A better solution.

But a solution for ME, maybe not for YOU. Not everyone is affected by caffeine as severely as I am. But do consider it.

Trying going without any caffeine from any source (no coffee, tea, cola, chocolate) as an experiment, not even in the morning, and see what happens. If you drag-ass in the morning, do like I do: wake up earlier, and take a long shower to help get you going.

And if your friends & associates tell you that you're irritable and grumpy at first, as I was, then maybe you do have too great a reliance upon caffeine, as I did.

PM yes do you believe it? I just stopped one day, had a headache for 4 days. But that is how I am. I can also stop eating rice, bread, potatoes and pasta completely on a dime when I want.

BUT I know with coffee if I have a little in the afternoon I will not be able to stop. I will be right back to quad espressos.

    Deco...this is intriguing. I don't know if I can do it just yet....but I do like a challenge. icon_exclaim.gif

I was having 2 of the 19 oz Red Bulls a day. That was very hard on me. I maybe have one very occasionally now. My bowel movements went back to normal. I solved 2 problems.

If I didnt have a Redbull I would turn in to a raging bitch. So I just cut out.

Nobody seems to be answering ur question Foxy.Hope I can help.Try Gatorade G1, the pre-workout one (the G3 is also AWESOME!!), i was running late one morning and had to choose : Gym or breakfast, tough sitch! So anyway, I popped into the mini mart for the g3 and thought "hmmm, what's this jelly stuff in a packet".I sucked that fucker down and actually bested my time on the dreaded treadmill, AND pounded the hell outta the free weights. There is no caffine in it, and (I'm assuming) no chrystal meth, so it might be what ur looking for.Hope that helps baby boy.
Oh,it runs about 3$ at our aforementioned mini mart, but Walmart (I know, I know) has them for 1.50$.

Whenever I crash from coffee in the afternoon, eating a small meal usually helps me out.

If I start to feel sluggish towards the end of the day, I go back to the gym. I know that sounds odd, but a light workout, (as a 2nd one of the day), really brings me back to life. icon_cool.gif

When I start to nod off in the afternoon, the wind rushing by the plane as it starts to nosedive usually wakes me up.

My "drag" time is a little later than yours. I get sluggish from 2 pm to 3, but I manage to power through that. It's usually on the drive home from work where it gets pretty bad. Hence, I've been getting a Starbucks Skinny Vanilla Latte almost every day on the way home.

If I'm having that before 7 pm, it doesn't mess with my sleep too bad. Especially if I'm going to the gym, that gets me pretty pooped.

I thought gimmick too! But I was helping a friend move last month in 95° heat and a g3 was the only thing to drink in the fridge.I was DYING! I chugged it and almost instantly felt like I could have redone the whole ordeal again, right then, right there.Gatorade has really gotten their shit together and realized a major money making opportunity. A month's worth of g3 is only about 3 bucks more than my old generic whey product, and prob 20$ cheaper than any name brand.Brilliant!

If you are dragging in the afternoon, especially a few hours after lunch, it's a matter of your diet needs "tweaked". You have too many carbs and fats....which triggers the body to dump insulin into the blood.....once the carbs have been processed, your blood sugar level is too low and makes you tired, until you either sleep or add carbs (or some stimulant...IE, coffee).....eat lighter and smaller and more frequent. If you are still sleepy, try going to bed earlier....its your diet! ALSO make sure you are HYDRATED!icon_cool.gif
