It is almost obligatory to get it at least once during a tour in the Middle East, though you are no more likely to get it at KAF than you are in Ohio.

Did you know Montezuma's real name was Moctezuma? and that it meant "soaring eagle"? That when the Spanish misspelt it.. it became to mean "falling eagle?".. Ironic, considering the Spanish caused him to fall...

I am so sorry. You have my deepest possible sympathy.

Had it for the first time in Thailand last summer. I really had no idea my body was capable of such nonstop internal violence for such an extended period of time. And being alone on an island in a country where I didn't speak the language made it seem much worse than if I'd been at home with the same symptoms. After the first two hours, I began to feel like my once-familiar and comfortable body had left me, had sneaked out in the night and left this horrifying intestinal machine in its place, After the second two hours I was utterly debased. Coherent human speech was beyond me -- in between the uncontrollable and humiliating contractions the only sounds I could produce went something like:
    "Ohhh gaaaaaawww aaa aaaaannnnngggg!!
    Ohhhhhhhhhhh gaaaaaahhhhhhd! ahhhhhhhhhh!
    Ahhhh!
Uh! Unnnnnh, ohhhh gaaaaahhhhd nooooooooooooo noooo oh aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!
Arrrrgggzzzzzzznnnnnnn hunnnnnnnn oh no, no! no! NOOOOOOOO!!!"

I returned to America 15 pounds lighter.

Spend more time around parasites. It won't affect you when you drink their water. icon_razz.gif

(you'd think talking to a few RJ members you'd be immune to parasites) Bahahaha.

I never had this when I was abroad, I'm sure if you read food and health advisories they'll caution you on what to consume and if drinking tap water is advisable or not.

Hope you get over it bud!

One benefit from it.... if you could market that to the masses for a quick bikini/beach fix you'll make millions. ;)

    #1: Stay hydrated.

My usual treatment is water and stuff like Gatorade (i.e. no food) for 24 to 48 hours followed by a gradual return to food by way of the BRAT diet - bananas (not too ripe), white rice, apple sauce, and toast.

In 30 years of travelling all over the place I have had GI upsets very rarely. When they happen I've steered clear of Immodium etc. Almost every time the diet treatment has done the trick in a couple of days. Two or three times the problem was a little more serious and needed medicine to knock out the underlying bug.

    Feel better.

Ugh. I got that HORRIBLY my first time I was in Mexico. And I was wicked careful about everything. My second time, I went to the health store and got some pills I took each morning. That time I was fine. Never again will I travel w/o probiotics.
