like about a month ago, and I used to weigh about 115 lbs. I obviously want to gain more weight, but I don't want to look like super-enormous. my goal is possibly 160 lbs.

well, it's been a month, and i've already gained around ten pounds. I'm rather worried though, because it seems to me that it's a ton of weight to gain in such a short amount of time. I really don't want to overshoot and end up heavier than I want to.

So, what say you? are my worries unfounded? and about my goal weight, do you think it's too low or high? I don't want to get massive, I just want muscle definition, a bit of body sculpting, you know?

You use "like" in your sentences so try to like read this...j/k 5'9 160 sounds like a good goal but you won't be enormous at 160. It seems from your last though you do not want to be really big, so I'd say 160 is a good goal. Was the 10 pounds mucle or fat? If you gain quick, muscle or fat you might get stretch marks depending on your skin and genetics.

    Good Luck

lol i've been called out on that before, i should really change it hahaha

about the muscle/fat, i've remained more or less the same size despite the weight increase, so I suppose it's mostly muscle.

so i should calm down a bit in order to avoid stretch marks?

I started working out recently as well and I gained 10lbs in my first month (from my perception it's nearly all muscle). I look fine and feel fine. Really don't have much to worry about. If you're worried about skin or joint strain, try taking glucosamine so you can recover faster in that regard.

Deranged, I wouldn't worry to much about getting "to big". Your gain from 115 to 125 were probably mostly beginner gains which will trail off as you continue training and approach your genetic wall. Eventually you'll be happy to see a 2 pounds of lean mass gained in a month!
