Mayor encourages residents, instructs staff to spruce up in time for royal visit

In anticipation of next week’s visit by William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Charlottetown Mayor Clifford Lee is encouraging city residents to show their civic pride by showcasing the beautiful properties around the city.

“On July 3 and 4, the eyes of the world will be on our historic capital city,” Lee said.

“There are 1,400 accredited media coming to town, the potential for positive stories and beautiful photographs of Charlottetown is hard to measure.

“We want to show the world our beauty, our pride, our respect and gratitude to have been chosen for this historic first visit of the newly married Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.”

City work crews have been planting, weeding and repairing, placing ornamental grates at tree bases, hanging flower baskets on light standards and planting the bases of others. Local businesses have planted more than 70 corner gardens.

Residents are encouraged to weed their gardens, fix the broken front step they’ve been meaning to repair, touch up the paint on the front door, plant window boxes.
“This is our chance to look our absolute best.”

Lee also encourages residents to line the route and show the royal couple a warm welcome with a wave and a smile.

“Charlottetown has been an important stop on royal visits the Duke’s great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth and King George VI were here in 1939. Her daughter, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip toured our City in 1959 and his mother and father, Prince Charles and then Princess Diana visited Charlottetown in 1983. Let’s show this young couple how happy we are to have them – as we were to welcome all of the members of the royal family -- as guests in our great city.”

Well, please keep it clean after they leave. We're heading up to PEI in August.

I don't want to see untidy homes around the Confederation Center or George Street.

One would not expect anything less.

look at what Sydney Australia went though twice in preparation for a visit from Obama, the city even went into look down at great inconvenience to the people of Sydney to cater to the American paranoia, and the expence to the Aussie and Australian tax payers, and he did not even bloody show up X2, how bloody rude, and inconsiderate can he be?

But you can be guaranteed they will show up, and all the preparations will be well worth it to receive the worlds First family.
