Its almost about that time again, I guess...

I've posted on this in the past ( http://bit.ly/9YQ451 ) and it was pretty much a dead issue for me...Live and let live...People made the argument that Gay Pride was not about being proud of Gay Sex. I reluctantly accepted that.

But then I saw some pics from the 2011 Folsom Street Fair and just had to SMH repeatedly...Maybe I'm a prude. I know its not an age thing since most of the men in the pics were well over 40...

All of the arguments made saying Gay Pride parades are not about sex get dismissed with one photo from events like this. Granted this is to the extreme, but its still lumped into the Pride category IMHO.

Not even counting what the heteros think of these kind of events. But as a gay man, I look at this as Exhibit A why many gay men refuse to show face pics on even tame gay sites like this one.

Am I alone on this? Maybe...

I kind of feel the same way. Just like when I wandered in to IML 2 years ago. I dont judge people and try my best to live and let live.....I did get judgy when I saw someone getting fisted in the hotel lobby. I ran. I ran FAST....and FAR away.

Keep it in the bedroom, folks...

So...straight people can have their public sexually charged events, but it's bad when gays do it?
I don't see the logic here.

Mardi Gras, for one. No one says they're embarrassed to be straight because of that.

I love Pride events because they remind me that we AREN'T like straight people and should be proud of it. They are a remnant of a time when the "in" thing wasn't to be like straight people with their dreary LTR's and bonds of marriage icon_razz.gif. In our quest for equality, we have lost some that individuality by trying to "fit in" with all the straight people. Pride is a reminder to me that we are still different and should embrace it instead of share the straight peoples embarrassment over a little sexual behavior.

Generally EVERYONE should be embarrassed after any trip to Vegas.

I love when Gay people use the "straight people do it too" defense when in the same breath they scream about being different...smh. Just because straight people may or may not do it, does that make the initial point any less valid?

Well maybe if you weren't judging an entire event, or population of people by "one photo" you wouldn't be in such a tizzy.

Feel free to focus on any of the countless church groups, immigration reform organizations, local banks, labor unions, radio stations, small businesses, grandparents or ballroom dance groups that ALSO participate in Pride Parades and events. They are also photographed - I guess you didn't notice them though. We all know where YOUR mind is now don't we.

Perhaps the reason you equate Gay Pride with glittery enemas and slings is because you can't seem to take your eyes off of them.

Lighten up. NOBODY thinks those images represent YOU.

What exactly are you on about again? icon_rolleyes.gif And what alternatives do you suggest to your supposed problem?

I don't know if you're ashamed or not, but the "straight people do it too" argument is actually quite valid (more valid than any "argument" you claim to have here). Look around and take a close look at all the heterosexuality that is shoved down your throat on a daily basis. It is an affront to homosexuality. Homophobia is proliferated when people grow up with the idea that heterosexuality is the only normal sexual lifestyle that exists in our world. Don't you think that there's a straight pride occurring every freaking second in every single street in every single city in every single country on this planet?

And I read in your past thread that you understand African American Pride (and other racially based prides) but not gay pride? What is up with that? If you're against gay pride then you MUST be against any other type of pride. Your logic is horrendous.

mardi gras isnt an event to represent straights though, its just an event. anyone can be apart of it, even gays..

while gay parades are supposed to represent gays, so all the public sex is making us all look bad..

There is no one person or even large group of people that can make ME look bad. Speak for yourself...not "all of us." If I am gonna look bad - it will be because of my OWN actions LOL!!! No one else's.

One day when you can own who you are - you won't feel threatened by a group of people you will never meet, who you claim to have nothing in common with anyway, running around in stupid outfits. They are not a reflection of you. And no one equates you with them.

If you are disgusted by all the public sex at gay parades, then YOU are disgusted by all the public sex at gay parades. The same holds true for whoever else is disgusted by all the public sex.

What you should understand is that what those people who have sex in public do is in no way a representation your image. If you think otherwise, then you need to stop overgeneralising. How many straight people get disgusted by the immense amount of heterosexual sex displayed on TV everyday?

I do understand that the OP seems to be disgusted by all the public sex at gay parades, but that isn't the purpose of Pride (OP seems to be easily dismissing this point). If people do things that hinder the purpose of pride, then that's their problem not yours. Don't you ever feel that THEY'RE representing you because they're not.

I completely think the public sex thing is a negative for gay people. I mean, what would you say if some straight dude started fucking a chick on the street? Looks ugly, ridiculous, and i would feel so awkward just watching it. I would never do that!

Don't let this talk scare you. It is much exaggerated. Some are confusing Folsom with a Pride festival. They are not the same thing. Despite all the talk of the wildness, 95% of the people are wearing jeans or shorts and a t-shirt. You have a very good Pride there in Chicago and it is a lot of fun. One of the best in the country.

Depends... am I going to an event such as Folsom where I know it is sexually charged and quite expected? If so, then I don't think I'd mind. Same with music festivals, large beach parties, frat houses, etc.

If someone is going to Folsom, they know what they're getting themselves into. If not, they learn quickly, and have the option to leave at any time.

Cop out, gay mardi gras (southern decadence) makes straight mardi gras look like a church service.
