Fast Heart Rate?

Not sure if which section to put this in, but I guess this fits because of my goals.
EDIT: Whoops, this is definitely the wrong section. Sorry about that icon_confused.gif

This isn't really a dire concern of mine because it has not caused any sort of problem for me yet. Nevertheless, I normally pay attention to my heart rate when I am on a machine that measures it. During a 10 minute warm up, I usually push it pretty fast on the elliptical or arc trainer. My heart rate will be up to around 160 after 5 minutes or so, sometime sooner. It will usually stay around 165-170 once I get going. On a cardio day when I am going for distance though, my heart rate will be over 180 (highest I saw was 185). Maybe I am pushing myself harder then I think, but my heart rate always seems rather high. Resting heart rate I think I am usually between 70-80, sometimes a tad higher.

I am not looking for medical advice, more just if this sounds normal, and what you guys think.

It's fine. your heart is a muscle and can work hard without a problem. It really only becomes a problem if it doesn't stop beating fast, in which case you'd need medical attention

Ok coo, I suppose that's good then. For some reason it just struck me as a bit "too fast" to see my rate over 180. If that's normal and or not risky, great!

    Thanks guys icon_smile.gif

How do you FEEL when the machine says 180+ ?

And how fast does it come back down when you finish?

The same thing happens to me. My resting heart rate is usually anywhere from 85 to 100 and gets up to 175-185 during cardio. I had a full exam including a cardio echo and wearing a monitor for 24 hours and they never found anything odd, it's just the way my body is.

That seems high to me.But I have an unusually low one- about fourty five/fifty at rest.Your resting heart rate is about average,so I can`t see a big problem for you.It may just be the way your heart works. How long have you been doing cardio? And how long does it take to come down from the one sixties/seventies to normal,as intentsman asked?
I`ve heard a general rule is to have an upper limit of two twenty minus double your age.

Thanks OP - I've actually been wondering the same thing for a while.

When my HR goes above 190 I start to get a bit worried so then I lower the intensity (even though I know I can go a bit harder with the cardio). Great to hear some perspective from some of the others so at least I'm relatively normal (I hope) lol
