So although we don't get True Blood in the UK at the same time as the US, I have my ways and I've seen the first episode, which I believe was broadcast Sunday night.

    Thoughts?

I felt it was quite a disappointing opener to the new season. It felt very fragmented, which often seems to be the case with this show.

I liked the confrontation with Mab at the start and I hope there's more of that kind of thing to come.

I liked that things have moved forward a year - I may be wrong, but I think the previous seasons of True Blood all took place within the same year.

I liked the witch stuff. And LaFayette's new hair.

I did not like no Alcide! I did not really like Tara being in New Orleans and having become a girlfight lesbian.

P.s. where did Anna Paquin's boobs go? I'm sure she used to be more plentiful in that department.

I enjoyed the first episode. I was so happy just to have them back and get caught up on everyone.

    Things I liked:
Bill as the new King of Louisiana.
    Eric's leaner look.
    Pam.
    Pam.
    Pam.
    Hoyt and Jessica's problems.
    Lafayette's new adventure with Jesus.
    Arlene's baby problems

    Things I disliked:
    All the fairie stuff
    No Alcide
Too many storylines and characters. It's time to kill some people off.
Sam's new shifter coven - hokey
    Tommy being with Hoyt's mom
Tara as a lesbian...really Alan Ball? Does. Not. Compute.
Sookie not trying to be more badass with her powers. I know she doesn't really even have them in the books, but by golly this is a place where the show should diverge even further. I know if most people could do that shit they'd be shooting light beams at some fools.

I've heard from a friend of mine with HBOGo that episode 2 is MUCH better and really gets the season going by explaining a lot of what happened during Sookie's missing year.

I guess Bill as King means he wasted Sophie-Ann? We'll see...

Oh yeah I loved Pam as ever. I didn't mind Tara being in a lesbian relationship per se, I don't think that was such a shock, it's more her having started a whole new life in New Orleans that I didn't like, but hey, she needed a bit of a break from the crazy. Oh yeah, Sam's new group was a bit silly too. And is Tommy meant to be 'with' Hoyt's mum, or has she just taken him in as a Hoyt replacement? I wasn't too clear on that...

I was a bit annoyed that ALL the faeries were just hideous! Claudine was not what I expected and was Claude even mentioned? Damn! Need some gay faerie model material. Pam is just amazing.

I was so looking forward to it as well and was thinking at the end...is the show done? Time to move on from it? It was all over the place.

there's a bit too much going on to start the new season, too many storylines.

I feel they jumped the shark with Tara and are just reaching for something interesting for her to do.

Way too many storylines. Pam will forever be known as the best vampire in my books!! That fairy stuff was extremely boring. I couldn't care less about Sam, his storyline seemed dull but it picked up in episode 2 icon_smile.gif

It was OK - I mean there was no way it could live up to the hype. Hopefully as they fill in the back stories of what happened in the past year it will pick up its pace.

I'm a Hoyt fan - was so hoping he'd be the new surprise gay. Hey, why not? - it's not as if anything else makes sense.

And didn't Sam shoot a couple in the last ep?

Uh, that was a flashback to when he was younger and wild. He was conning and stealing from people with a lady but she two timed him with another man, so Sam shot them both when they were resting in the woods with Sam's loot.

I've very mixed feelings about this first ep. Wish the fairies were hot. Are the fairies at war with one another because of sookie? She brought over Bill, which compromised? their paradise so some want to "harvest" the fairies on earth and stay retreated in their fairy world?

For those who are dismissive of TB after the first episode, the second episode ties in quite a few of the story lines. The first episode is background, much like last season, while the second episode really pushes the story lines in a tremendous direction.

I thought it was on par with the previous 3 seasons. It's not like the show is known for its great writing or acting, it's the worst thing on t.v. and we all keep watching icon_razz.gif

Now having Kevin Alejandro on it just gives it a little something more ;)

Oh c'mon...it most certainly is not the worst thing on TV...it's a dirtier, but more fascinating Vampire story than that bullshit pretty people "Vampire Diaries" crap...and it's light years more interesting that the mundane rehashing of crime shows that are so flippin' numerous, they've gotten ridiculous: yes, I'm talking about "Criminal Minds," "Law & Orders," "CSI's," and all the other fucking shows that make living so very, very sad!

Frankly, I did like the first episode...and I saw the second online and liked it as well.

I was happy that Sam didn't kill Tommy, but it sucked that Tommy is now that old bigot's surrogate son!!!

People, chill...Alcide is in Season 4!

I didn't mind the shift for Tara: remember that the whole point was she was starting out a new life. She's always been angry and strong...so female UFC makes perfect sense. She's always had a little bit of lesbian yearning in her: remember when she became slightly infatuated with Sookie for just a moment in Season 1 when she realized that Sookie and Jason look alike?

I like the witches...and in the second episode, I think you are beginning to see the next trial and tribulation of Sam...a guy who is WAY too cute to be single and suffering the pangs of unrequited love. ;) LOL

Arlene is annoying me! I think they really should've shifted her to a much more secondary character...as in "Waitress #3?" LOL She just whines ALL the time.

Andy & Terry Bellfleur were more than enough Bellfleurs for the series...we really didn't need "Portia" to enter the mix. And how in the hell is Andy hooked on V?

I actually like Jessica...and I like Hoyt too...but I think the two of them need to be disconnected. Hoyt is the nice, secondary character...Jessica is the young Vampire with a nasty streak! I can't really blame her for cheating on Hoyt...did you see that "fang banger" guy who came on to her? WOW!

I kinda like the way the Jason & the Werepanther storyline is unfolding. It's pretty cool...and I think is going to be very interesting. And even though he's an inbred hillbilly redneck with a face that looks like he's been beaten on a time or two, I do like Felton...he's evil of course, but he's still pretty cute!

Love Eric...and Pam as well! I like that it was Eric who bought Sookie's house.

Learning what happened to Sophie-Anne was kinda cool too...don't piss off Nan Flanagan! LOL

So far, I really like the fourth season...I like it a bit better than I liked Season 2, though not quite as much as I liked season 1 & 3. I think some of the storylines have to be whittled down a little bit (ie. Arlene, Hoyt, Hoyt's Mother, the Bellfleurs!!!), and I'm hoping we'll see Claudine again (in her glory) and Claude as well (non-troll-like)...

On the subject of the Faeries...I think Maab may wind up being an excellent villain in this season...but remember what she said when you dislike the fact that the Faeries obviously are more troll-like than we originally thought: the Vampires drove them onto this new, desolate plain! It makes perfect sense that their appearance would be mostly illusion.

Also, on Sookie not using her power more frequently...frankly I hope she doesn't. That was one of the great unravellings that happened with "Heroes"- too many people with abilities...not enough time to put them altogether.

"True Blood" may be nearing that when you consider that there is one fairy, two shifters, three witches and one were-panther if you just count the staff at Merlottes and their nearest and dearest!

andy is hooked on V because he was in a cast when the DEA came to raid Hot Shot, la. so he tried it and now he is an addict. The bellflouers have a very interesting history, bill compton is Andy's great great grandfather.

The sam stuff is wacked, luna will be quite interesting

The fairy wars have been on going and there is also wars with goblins and other creatures. the harvest thing did not make sense.

claudine and claude who are twins were her fairy godparents however we only met claude when he told her and the grandfather to jump.
    thats claude.

MAAB should be kick ass this series if they use her again. Sookie is actually sired from the king of the fairies so i'm assuming her fae powers are stronger than that of a regular hybrid mix.

Did I miss something? Alcide was there ....

Sookie was looking at him like she was wondering if she was gonna get on her knees for him or not ...

The first episode was good ... it had a lot of ground to cover and set up the coming season pretty good
Whether the show will stay high on my list is gonna depend on two things
.... and in no particular order they are
    Eric and Alcide icon_cool.gif

You must be talking about the second episode - Alcide was NOT in the first episode (I know as I didn't have to change my underwear afterwards) icon_twisted.gif

I liked both episodes, the second was even better than the first and I hope that trend continues... not sure I'm crazy about whats gonna happen to Jason but it will give them another excuse to get him naked.

Is it just me or is Jason Stackhouse's biceps gotten bigger? Damn, I didn't think it was possible for him to get sexier but I LOVE the goatee thing he's got going on.

OK, that is all I could concentrate on the entire first episode.

Do you guys actually like True Blood because all I initially read was “I don’t like this…I don’t like that…… there are too many storylines….Blah blah blah”. Luckily, someone stepped in to quell all the non-sense before I had to. Thanks TrentGrad

I love this show and I think it is amazing. Not saying it’s perfect, but if the writers neglected to include some of these characters in the storylines or failed to provide an explanation for their actions in the previous season some of you would be complaining about that too. It’s a necessary flaw. Don’t be too quick to douse the new season just yet.

And props to that other person who appeared to have spent the time actually reading the novels or at least doing his homework. Big plus.

The writing really is truly terrible, noone can really deny that, doesn't mean you can't like it, like me. It's an awful show and really addictive. I watch every week and look forward to it, though i could do with less boobage. icon_rolleyes.gif The Faerie scene in the premiere was great and a real step up from previous seasons. I think I read they were only planning on 5 seasons total?

The best part of the show for me is jessica, and it's funny because she's not in the books, was only created for the series.

    Marnie's spell:

Jam tibi impero et præcipio maligne spiritus! ut confestim allata et circulo discedas, absque omni strepito, terrore, clamore et foetore, asque sine omni damno mei tam animæ quam corporis.

Translated: Evil spirits, I command you to depart the circle immediately, without sound or fear or foulness, and without damage to either my soul or body.
