    Now Arabic is one of the languages tahts on my list to learn for business reasons and politics... but the arabic language is so diverse and stretched out, that they are as different as Spanish and Romanian...

    Now I am aware that there is such a thing as standard Arabic, which is probably the written political form, and thus one that woudl be very useful for written documentation

    but I understand that most ppl in the world can actually understand and do basic communication in Egyptian arabic... Not to mention, Egyptian is still to some degree intelligible with Levant and with Maghreb dialects... Whereas only educated ppl know standard

    Finally, I also heard the Saudi dialect is the considered the most "proper" adn is the most standard of spoken dialects.. not to mention most of the Arabs I know who live HERE are Levant Arabs and so I figured for international work, Levant would be best, plus they have very popular music and would be easy to learn that way

    So my question for the Arabs is, which dialect do you think I should learn? which would serve me most in practice do you think?

    It depends what sort of business you are doing now and what sort of business you want to be doing tomorrow. Honest answer.

    If you are in oil/commodities there is a clear right/wrong answer.
    If you are in advertising/PR/etc. there is less of a right/wrong answer since you can either choose mainstream or try to divert one way or the other politically and/or geographically if you are risk seeking.
    Also if you want to be getting Iranian business you should probably subordinate Arabic to Farsi; likewise if you want Israeli business then Hebrew is a better investment of time; or if you want to go exotic and suave, then go Turkish.

    In whatever line of work you are in, ask an older/more experienced mentor person where they see the market going for whatever you are doing. I would not trust the random internets to dictate that much of an investment of time and energy.

    To GymFreak aka theanticock pka OnTarget,
    For this entire week of our mourning our 49 Orlando dead massacred by one of your scumbag Muslim jihadists, assisted in his murdering by his "Palestinian" wife, you've been incessantly posting your Moooslim crap into all the forums, digging up Middle East threads from nearly a decade ago to spam spam spam spam spam spam spam your anti-Semitic ranting to bully a gay community struggling to come to grips with the catastrophe done to us by your Radical Islamic Piece of Shit buddy. You've been posting my screenname and my picture before I broke the link to that and posting MY ELEPHUNTS into every thread to disrupt the grieving of this gay community which you've done under the guise first of OnTarget and then as theantiCock, your mockery of my screenname theantijock;

    thusly you posted there and there and there and there and there and there and there:

    Hello there,

    The answer largely depends on why you wanna learn Arabic. If your goal is to use Arabic academically or for business then by all means stick with MSA, as it would likely be the better choice for you. But if you plan to make friends, buy things and haggle, travel, attempt to blend in and not get ripped off then I'd suggest (Egyptian /Levantine) because of their popularity from films and songs on Arab TV.

    Good luck. (-:
