I've seen this before and it always cracks me up. For some reason, I especially love the guy trying to get on the train.

I don't want to seem humorless, but I just don't find most of those things funny.

It's either embarrassing to the victim or, in more than a few cases, scary (setting someone's newspaper on fire?!?) Someone could get seriously hurt.

Very true. If it had been done to me, I woul have kicked the guy's a$$.

I have seen people pranking people up close and personal and I always scoulded the jerk/s for doing it, but for some reason I thought it was very funny, but I did kinda feel bad for finding it funny...lol.

First vid is obviously an extreme, and arguably takes it a step too far in some places.

Sure, some of the pranks are funnier than others.

Sure, the guy in it is undeniably an obnoxious, immature anti-social with possible borderline sociopath tendencies.

Getting one's panties tied in a knot over though it is kinda redundant, as, lets be real, nobody was really in any serious danger in the video.

Wellllllllllllllllllll, unless the guy who got pushed into the water was a paraplegic and the newspaper in question was soaked in gasoline.

cold said^^^ The thing about these morons is that they're selfish. They don't consider how the other person feels, or they do and they just don't care. The man he wouldn't let on the tram might be late for work, get fired and lose his source of income, fail to make mortgage payments which puts stress on him and his family ultimately leaving him homeless and divorced from his loved ones. In a less fanciful turn of events, the man standing on the ladder could have easily fallen and been killed. Of course, these scenarios are unlikely - but this jerk doesn't think of these things. The cases I read for law school often stem from careless and insensitive people like this. It's sad.

^Yep, guy in vid 1 lacks human empathy.

Also true that the above scenarios you mention lie within the the realm of possibility. Possible but not a reasonable likelihood. It is because of their rare nature that those kind of cases make it into law books in the first place.

I'm not applauding or revering the guy in the video. However, extreme and shocking scenarios can and often does provoke laughter that we don't consciously control, no matter how socially inappropriate it may be.

Whether it's a pressure valve mechanism or some weird primal social reaction, it's an evolutionary oddity.

Finding something funny doesn't necessarily mean you find it socially agreeable, just that it causes an unconscious physical reaction to laugh.

Not surprising the varied reactions to the video. During the last century, slapstick was a major comedic form. One of the most common sketches consisted of someone slipping on a banana peel. Depending upon the context, it was considered by many to be quite funny. I think a part of the humor was the assumption that the person falling was not injured, so people could laugh at the act, knowing the consequences were not serious. I'm sure if a video consisted of someone slipping, breaking their leg, and in significant pain, almost no one would find any humor.
