What can I think, believe and do everyday to become sucessful?

I need to think about what it is I need to do for myself because no one is going to be able to take care of me fully and meet all my needs and I'd be a fool to believe them if they say so.

I need to believe that I am a great guy to have in any capacity instead of the lies I was fed almost my whole life.

And I need to do everything that I can do for myself so that I can be more helpful to others and so that they can learn the importance of taking care of the self.

I have been putting this into practice for 2 years now and I never imagined I would be where I'm at today mentally or physically. I probably would've been dead.

I've found that I'm the happiest when I don't think about myself so much. icon_smile.gif

I have a kind of dorky mantra I repeat to myself on the train into my new job.

    1) speak with a voice that commands respect and is pleasant to hear
    2) don't be afraid to ask for help or make an arse of yourself
    3) walk with your view on the horizon, looking up with optimism
    4) when you think you have a free moment, use it to learn something new

Sometimes I add one or things to it, but that's it for the moment. Success in my career is important to me.

I do not define success with the amount of money I earn, or what I drive or where I live, or my career. I am retired and live a very simple life and work part-time. My health is very good, I have a good family and friends, all of my needs are fulfilled, and I love people. My success depends on how I interact with the people I associate with everyday. Can I be of service to someone? Can I help? Can I cheer someone up who is down? All of these things mean an effective, authentic life to me, and in turn I can lie down at night and sleep with a clear conscience.

I believe the term "successful" is objective. What one person sees as successful may not be successful to another.

As an example. I may not have much in material possessions, but I have everything I need or want. We are debt-free and own a few hundred acres (small compared to where I was raised.) To many it would not be considered successful. But, to me, it is.

Always treat people with respect. Never backstab to rise to another rung on the ladder.

In my mind, the men that are the most successful are those that are happy, content, and have earned the respect of those around them.

Fair point. Clarification: what can / do you think / believe / do each moment to bring you closer to your definition of success in areas important to you?

I think success is many things including health, mental stability, relationship, financial, and the energy we surround our self with.

    Here is my list.

    1. Exercise, it's good for the mental out look on life and the benefit of appearance is great too.

    2. Don't be afraid to take chances and fail, it will keep you grounded and humble.

    3. Have really great friends that contribute to your life positively as much, as you do to theirs. No superficial relationships.

    4. Treat people with respect. Treat them how you would like to be treated.

    5. Always forgive, we all make mistakes. Holding on to negative things is a lot harder and requires more energy. Releasing bad energy will enlighten you.

    6. Have a dog, they teach us so much about humanity and love unconditionally. If you can have one.

    7. Try to think positive. Sometimes on a bumpy road you will hit a pot hole or two, maybe even three. Check the damage, evaluate the situation, learn to take a new road and keep driving.

    8. Live like a European. They don't work them selves to death, they have way more fun then us Americans. They walk more, so get out and walk. Try not to live beyond your means. Quality over quantity. Always smile when entering a room.

Think the world is better than how you currently perceive it.
Believe you can make it that way if it's not.
    Do me.

Show up for work on time every day for a month, and you'll stand out from the pack.

What helps me is thinking about where I don't wanna go or be in life which kinda propels me in the other direction...kinda like warning and avoidance...I dunno seems to work well for me icon_smile.gif
