Last fall I went lindy hopping in Philly for the first time in my life and I loved it! This summer I joined the Uni's beginner's classes for swing and salsa and the fascination refuses to fade! icon_biggrin.gif

I went to check it out with my boyfriend, thinking that we could dance together.

Well, the spinsters all went crazy that there were guys to dance with and there would have been a riot if we had refused to dance with them. I liked it, but not enough to go more than a couple of times.

Lindy hop classes are mostly full of young people. Maybe you were in a ballroom swing class misusing the term "lindy hop"?

however, the lindy is the one dance step that i would enjoy learning and doing.

I would say that when I was teaching, that there were only 2 students who I found to be "stuck" at beginner level. But I attribute that more to my failing to figure out a way to either figure out their sticking point, or being able to fix the problem. Everyone can learn, and it's not hard to learn the basics. After that, it's about feeling the music and connecting with your partner! Lindy scenes are generally very progressive. Girls dance with girls; guys dance with guys. No one really gives a crap whether you're gay or straight as long as you don't turn them down for a dance!
