I DID IT!

I just left a bar after a few glasses of wine. Nicely buzzed. The last person I talked to was a semi-handsome, quirky older man, actually only 50. Anyway, he made a comment about how hot a girl was. And I acknowledged it (you know, to be polite, and she was kinda hot).

Anyway, at one point he said "Yeah, I'm into girls. Not into guys. Not a GAY guy," said in a derogatory way.

As I was signing my receipt, I thought, "Should I, or shouldn't I?" So I did it.

I turned to him and said, "You know, when you're in a bar and talking to people you don't know, you never know if you may be offending them. I'm gay."

He was like totally apologetic, asked to shake my hand, then shake it twice, then as I said "It's OK," and started walking toward the exit, he said he'd like to talk to me again.

Now the bartenders know I'm gay, so who knows how I'll be treated next. But I made a difference tonight. Some quirky older dude got floored when a dude he enjoyed chatting with was of a sexuality other than he perceived.

    Little steps.

Back when I used to sex lots of closeted guys, it was very common for them to say "I'm NOT gay" shortly after shooting their wads.

Good! And a repeat of a story I've told before: Christmas shopping with my late partner, I was finished first, went into a mall bar/restaurant to wait for him. A guy next to me at the bar struck up a conversation over a game on the TV nearest us. Seems he was waiting for his wife to complete shopping and join him.

We hit it off, talked for some 20 minutes, when another of the TVs, tuned to CNN, mentioned a gay-related story. Well, he just went off on gays, using every derogatory term. I stayed calm, non-committal, kept my cool.

My partner arrived a few minutes later, I introduced him as my "friend," and right afterwards the guy's wife showed up. My partner didn't want a drink, time for us to go, so he went back out into the mall. As I said my goodbyes, the guy very glad to have met me, etc, I said, loud enough for the bar and his wife to hear:

"And by the way, you've been talking with a gay guy. And that other guy is my partner, with whom I sleep in bed. Have a Merry Christmas! Bye!"

He was too stunned to respond. I told my partner what I did when I rejoined him, and we laughed all the way to our car. Obviously didn't make any gay points that day, but I did feel so damn good! icon_biggrin.gif
