What kind of dog are you getting?

Forget that! Take some time and name him something that is unique for him, that matches his personality or devotion. Don't go the "Bubbles route".

Both of my beagles were named by the previous owners (both given and registered names) since they were owned by others before they were given to me.

I hated "Buddy" for my beagle when I adopted him almost 6 years ago... but the devotion he has shown me and his unique character. He is truly my "Buddy" and it suits him. I can't imagine him being called anything else.

    Mythological:

    CANINES:

Garm - (Hound of the heavens - Norse mythology)
Fenris/Fenrir - (Wolf chained at the World tree - Norse mythology)
Cerberus - (Three headed dog - Greek mythology)
Orthrus - (Two-headed dog, brother to Cerberus - Greek Mythology)
    Anubis (Jackal - Ancient Egypt)
    Kitsune (Fox - Japan, Shinto)

Of course you could just go with Spike or Madonna. LOL

I would like to get a dog too. I have a couple of names that I would like, but as with my cat the name kind of came after I got her. Mayzie is my cat. For a dog, I'm think Salvador, Rupert, Tompkins, or She-Rah.

I agree with the personality thing, the name has to fit. My parents adopted a shelter dog that had been named by its previous owner. He was Reno, the Jack Russell, now he's Jack. How original! But he is definately a Jack!! And when he was on the furniture it was always fun to embarass the parents by saying, "Jack, Off!"

I like giving pets actual human names. We treat them like a member of the family, so why do we give them stupid names?

I would recommend calling your dog "Steve."

    Snuggles
Cabernet (actually any wine will do)

All monikers for Catwoman; naming your dog after a cat would be the most gay.

Name it something you will be comfortable yelling in a park.

    Remember some day you may need to yell;
    Bubbles! Bad Bubbles, Bad!!
    or even:
    Kisses come here!
