Just in case anybody was wondering...as I was....

Geocaching is a treasure hunting game where you use a GPS to hide and seek containers with other participants in the activity. Geocaching.com is the listing ...

On a related note: I heard Google is working on an offline version of Google Maps for Android. That way you can utilize the GPS/navigation features without the need for a cellular/wifi data connection.

So yeah, don't go geocaching with your smartphone just yet. Cuz you probably won't get a signal out in the boonies. icon_lol.gif

I've wanted to geocache ever since the "sport" first started a few years ago.
Still haven't gotten the chance to do it yet, though.

Haven't done a group event yet. I've been geocaching with my partner. There might be some answers at geocaching.com in the forum section. Let me know how it goes. Good luck!

My partner and I started doing it a couple of years ago. It's really fun and really takes you out to places you wouldn't think you would go.

I was curious if there were any others on here and found this thread. I started Geocaching back in 2008 but have only done it sporadically and have only located about 150 caches - mainly urban caches which I love but several others during hikes. I've placed one near my home as well. It's been there for two years and has had 25 visitors in that time (in California - a bit remote) including at least one person from Holland.

Since I'm getting in shape again I'm going to start going out and catching some more of these. Any other geocachers out there? It's a great addition to the hiking experience and it can take you to some new places that you never would have imagined. If you enjoy treasure hunting of any kind or puzzles I would highly recommend it. They are usually simple and no treasure other than simple little nicknacks, but it's all about the hunt and the experience in the end.

    The website is here: http://www.geocaching.com/

I've been geocaching for about two years. I don't get to do it as much as I'd like to, but when I do, I enjoy it so much.
Any Chicago cachers, feel free to hit me up if you're looking for someone to go geocaching with one day.

just recently started. it's pretty amazing, if you think about it. everyday locations and places that you walk by, nine chances out of ten, have some sort of hidden cache near them.

it's like pokemon or some shit. icon_smile.gif

No, but I've got a friend who has a Geo-sexual memory.

If you are traveling with him he can tell you about the guy who he 'did' by that tree, or behind that barn/outbuilding or in which motel.

    We tease him about it.

Had some friends who enjoyed doing it and went with them once, did not find it enjoyable at all. I prefer to stumble upon treasures out in nature, not trop thru the woods to search for them!

lol, yeah not for everyone. Makes it a lot easier when you have one of the smart phone apps. I just learned (like 5 minutes ago, lol) that there is now an app for my Windows 7 Phone!! WOO HOO - downloaded and ready to go icon_smile.gif Can't wait to get out there and try it out.

If there is anyone in the Los Angeles/Bakersfield/Santa Clarita/Antelope Valley areas looking for search friends, let me know. icon_smile.gif
