Bodybuilder Rex Ravelle of the golden age of bodybuilding died on May 21, 2011 at the age of 95 in Chula Vista, CA, near San Diego, of cardiovascular dementia. He was born in Italy on May 5, 1916, as Gennaro De Nuccio and immigrated to the U.S. in 1920. He first lived in Cincinnatii, and later moved to the Los Angeles area where he became a movie stuntman and occasional actor; he was reported to have done the stunts for Johnny Weissmuller in the latter's Tarzan roles. In the 1950s he moved to Hawaii where he ran a gym that included a women's section as well. He was one of the pioneers in introducing bodybuilding to Hawaii. He later moved back to California, again to the Los Angeles area, then moved to Chula Vista.
There isn't any record of his winning any bodybuilding title, although he did come in third in one of the Mr. California competitions. He had an aesthetic body, and one of his photos for Spartan, the noted Hollywood nude photography studio, is a picture of him in a g-string with his arms in a "welcoming" stance that became an iconic photo in physical culture. (If any of you could download it for us, please do because as a senior I can't seem to do it.) Ravelle once mentioned trying to get Jayne Mansfield to do a gladiator movie with him, but I don't think he had the influence to get such a thing going.

Sorry to have messed this up, but I started to type in the subject space, and I forgot to delete it.
