My interview on CNN yesterday morning

Hey, guys. I'm getting ready to start my second day. I'm going to take it very easy today, as yesterday was overwhelming. I walked the 14 miles from NY to Hackensack, and when I got to the motel where I had a reservation, it turned out to be CLOSED! Due to, get this, UNSAFE STRUCTURE. An attendant came to talk to me and said it closed 4 months ago because there was a fire. They already charged my card, but I'm sure I'll get my money back. Luckily, there was another motel up the road. I walked over, and got a room. They charge by the hour (eww. I spread the sleeping bag over the sheets), but I only got three hours of sleep the night before, so I slept well.

My goal is to average 20 miles a day, but I'm going to have to work up to that. Today I'm taking it very easy, doing only 7 to Clifton, where some friends are hosting me. The day after that, I'm probably going to stay with a friend's cousin in West Caldwell, NJ. And Thursday I"m hoping to make it to Morristown, NJ, where I have no place to stay. Might be my first night of having to seek some safe place to camp. Unless any of you know someone who'd be willing to let me set my tent up on their front yard, or use their couch. :-)

Anyway, here's my interview with CNN yesterday:

ABC News also interviewed me. Not sure when they'll air it.

Great interview Constantino! I luv how you are so honest about what you are trying to accomplish on this journey across america. A lot of us born here in this country sometimes take it for granted what America offers its people. I'm sure you will find some great answers from all the people you meet on your trip. Are you keeping a online journal or written journal? Its awesome that you can share this experiences with fellow RJ's. Hope someone is keeping an eye on your best friend back home. Wish you the best of luck and a safe journey!

Please keep us updated here on RealJock --- maybe even do a thread specifically chronicling your trip so that those of us along your route can come out to meet you. I know I sure will if you you're coming through Phoenix. Also, let us know if or where we can make donations for shoes, lodging, etc. Good luck and be safe!!!

I used to have family in Morristown, my first cousin (her husband was the State Senator from Morris County). But I have no idea now, they must be in their 70s if still there, so I'm no help. icon_sad.gif

But I know that whole area so well, delighted to hear towns I never do now, like Clifton (bought a VW there) and West Caldwell -- that was my youth. Sounds like you might be following Routes 3, 46 and 23 at this point. And glad you've managed to get Internet access and can keep us informed.

Now is your proposed route listed on a site? I'll bet you could find RJers willing to take you in overnight at many points. I live all the way down in south Florida, doubt you're gonna be detouring that far, but I would think there's a lot of us in mid-America. Let us know, and we can make other threads about it, keep this current & hot.
