California Passes Gay Inclusive Education Bill

"The California Assembly on Tuesday passed a bill that would make California the only state in the nation to require LGBT-inclusive social studies lessons.

The Assembly passed the bill in a 49-25 vote.

There were impassioned speeches all round, some based in recognition of the fact that excluding LGBTs from history is inaccurate and is itself evidence of the stigmatization that teachers are now working hard to combat, and opposition comments that were, well, less concerned with facts and more about scaremongering and anti-gay rhetoric."

Im not really in favor of this bill. I dont think it will work as intended. And I dont think outing people long after their dead is positive. Achievements are just that and have nothing to do with where you put your cock.

I dont think the intention is to out people, I have to disagree with you here Dallasfan.

I had to learn all about LGBT history on my own, I didnt have the opportunity to learn about it much like I learned about the black civil rights movement of the 1960s and so forth. The idea here is to humanize gay people to these schools and help closeted people feel accepted, by sharing the achievements and accomplishments of out gay men.

    Im happy this was passed.

    Why sex ed?

I agree that people should learn, I wish I learned about gay sex in sex ed but I dont think gay history deserves to be in Sex ed...

No, but we study the Holocaust, Woman's Suffrage and Slaver in the US. Turning, Wilde and every homo wiped out since the Dark Ages; deserve to have their suffering acknowledged and avoided for the rest of time.Children are entitled to know what modernity is beget from.

    1. Because there are differences in sexual practices.
    2. Myths about homosexuality that need to be dispelled.
    3. Parents may not talk to (and probably won't) their kids about the birds, the bees and the rainbows... that is what Sex Ed is for. To insure that WE ALL have adequate knowledge about what is happening to our bodies and attractions.
    4. Children becoming aware of their homosexual attractions need to be informed that there are resources for them and that someone has their back.
    5. A lot of kids, including myself, won't realize that they are "gay" and become confused by their homosexuality.

I agree only if it pertains to what they did. The Holocuast was based on religion. Suggrage on gender. Slavery on color.

My understanding is it was not to teach kids about Stonewall, but more about saying "Hey, this guy invented the scuba suit and by the way he loved teh cock"

Its more like "this is the Stonewall Riots, this is Harvey Milk and what he did, this is such and such" not "this guy liked dick."

Did the guy who invented the scuba suit like dick too?

Oh, I get it. I thought u meant things like the Harvey Milk movement and the Stonewall Riots should be taught in sex ed like "Kids this is a penis, and this is Harvey Milk...and this is Harvey Milk's penis..."

Here is a funny article on the opposition:

    http://www.deathandtaxesmag.com/117321/california-conservatives-lose-minds-over-gay-history-law/

    Some quotes I like:

Said the group’s president, Randy Thomasson, “This sexual brainwashing bill would mandate that children as young as 6 years-old be told falsehoods — that homosexuality is biological, when it isn’t, or healthy, when it’s not.” His evidence? Some gay people, like every other human who doesn’t practice safe sex, contract HIV/AIDS.
