One would think with all of the brains and experts in Washington, that someone could come up with at least something to help America solve its financial woes.

Why couldn't we do the following?

Create a National Lottery for it's sole purpose for revenue go to the deficit
A 1% national sales tax earmarked for debt reduction
ALL federal employees with salaries of $50,000 - $100,00 get a 5% paycut
ALL federal employees over $100,000 annually would get a 10% cut
(keep the jobs but watch further expansion with new programs)
The 47% of those citizens who pay nothing, should pay at least 3-5%
All Social Security recipients who earn more than $1,500 a month should take
    a small cut
Eliminate Medicare/Medicaid waste/fraud (easier said than done)
Eliminating Bush Tax Cut for the wealthy could be less austere. Increase the
    cuts slightly

Is it all just about politics? We are all going to have to pay something. Any ideas for your vision to reduce the deficit/national debt?

I'm not good at this stuff, but I know that in some areas, $1500/mo isn't enough to pay BASIC bills and still eat healthy.

The 47% (52%?) that pay "nothing" actually pay other taxes, just not income tax.

A National Lottery sounds cool. I'll buy if people won't say it's unconstitutional. icon_razz.gif

    I'm thinking of maybe $10 - $20 a month. Chicken feed, but a start.
