For those of us with FINALS

The end-of-semester crunch is here, threatening the semi-annual disruption of our schedules and potentially damaging some of the progress we've made. I start to worry because I have to shift workouts around, do make up days, etc, but when I take a step back and look at it, I think I actually make MORE progress during finals.

    1. I think something about being that busy and having to manage my time that precisely makes my use of "gym time" more better-er.
    2. Lots of students seem to abandon the gym around this time, making equipment more available, whole places is less crowded, etc.

Maybe it just means I should be studying more. How're the semester closing up for you all?

I'd be interested to hear what this is like from the other side, get an instructor's perspective.

During finals week i basically dont work out much, i just spend my time on coffee and studying, and after finals are over, the gym closes down that week on campus, and so i feel like a big fat bum who drank way too much coffee and energy drinks. the week after that im back to normal.

luckily, two of my finals where canceled! so i only have two more exams to take...Corporate Finance and Income Taxation Accounting, which alone would measure up to almost my entire week....ugh..cant wait to be over....

Usually I get very stressed. I try to atleast get cardio in since it helps with my stress levels alot. I end up also usually drinking tons of caffeine and studying. Studying in smaller peroids more fequently deliver much more retention for my brain and attention span. WOrking out during finals is very hard to do, depending on your final.

    Yep... finals suck.

fortunately, i only have one in class final. my other in-class final is a group exam so it will hardly be a challenge. two of my other finals are online and my last class doesn't even have a final.

    finance will be hard tho.

I think it's very similar for many instructors also. A lot of us are racing to get papers and other assignments graded before the last day of class, so that students can go into the final knowing what grades they got on all the other course requirements. And then once the final exams come in, they need to be graded fast and the grades have to be submitted to the registar. I've pretty much lost hope of getting any exercise in for the next two weeks myself.

I have a crazy paper attack from hell. Three research papers that are over 10 pages single spaced being the worst of it. I guess I don't have tests, so I can't complain, but with two jobs, the amount of time needed for paper writing can be a bit much.

Hope all your studying goes well... I'll be trying to figure out why I went to grad school.

If you don't think you can make it to the gym, do a bunch of pushups while you're studying. They work the entire body and all you need is the floor! Do crunches, do lunges, etc.

I've already finished finals because we tend to finish really early in Montreal. Yippie! Good luck to the rest of you, though! icon_biggrin.gif

I work-out* in the morning before class.
*Don't go to the gym: run, yoga, etc. at home.

    Go to class.

    Go to work.

Stay at the library until 11pm.

There's some eating in there somewhere, or if not a Smoothie from Smoothie King.

    Go home, bed.

    Start all over again.

Only difference between these weeks and normal weeks is I don't stay at the library until 11 and I usually work-out when I get home from work.

I love finals week at the gym. There are far fewer undergrads there than normal, but the gym's still open for regular semester hours instead of the much shorter summer hours. It's so much easier to get in and get my workout done without having to worry about the equipment all being tied up.

And, it doesn't hurt that of the undergrads who do keep showing up, a much higher percentage of them are the guys who are fun to look at than at other times. ;)

Yeah, but you know, working out will definitely relieve some of the stress from studying, and the gym won't be as busy because everyone is off studying somewhere else.

I definitely spoke too soon, had to half-ass my workout this morning and I'm still behind schedule. And I'm up to probably five cups of coffee per day, average... gah.

Moud, I'm up to my ass in corporate finance, and losing my sense of humor about it fast. I feel for ya, bud.

Best of luck to all of ya!

yeah...it's crunch time, which makes for stress-laden days.

The added stress makes me want to workout even more. I am actually done with my grad program. However, I am studying for the MCAT and I work full time.

Since studying for the MCAT is like having 4 science class load plus an annoying verbal (reading comp) class, I often find myself staying up until 3am (yeah...not cool) just to make sure I get enough done.

I am much more efficient in the gym simply b/c I know I have to be out of there within a reasonable amount of time.

Best of luck to everyone. Summer is ALMOST HERE!!!!

Im on a quarter system so I finished a few weeks ago, but I usually love finals week.

My study strategy is to cram everything in a few hours before the exam, and Im usually able to pull out an A.

Because there is no class or other annoying assignments during finals week, I find I have a lot more time than usual...

    Maybe thats just me... lol.

Finals are never fun, but it seems like I have most of the professors I have don't go with the comprehensive exams, however, there is always that extra work load in trying to finish up all those assignments that they seem to hold off till the end of the semester.

I try to keep up my physical fitness but like most it doesn’t take priority.
