German Pride Flag Variations

The USA, Canada, Mexico, and several other nations have localised variants of the LGBT Pride Flag.

But not Germany (aside from a teensy GIF of a proposed Germanised Bear flag, aber naturlich).

So... after goofing around all afternoon with GIMP and whatever, what do you think of these possible designs for a German LGBT flag?

EDIT: Removed the two that were not especially popular.

I might have one made up for when I go to Berlin next year. icon_biggrin.gif

They are based off of the German State Ensign (used on merchant ships and government buildings in Germany). I chose this form since the Bundeswappen - the eagle on the shield - is recognizably German when surmounted on the Pride Flag in similar fashion as the US stars-on-blue canton is on the USA LGBT Pride flag variant.

3 is the subtlest I don't like 2 and 4 because they infringe on other natural fields in the structure of the flag.

Yeah, and few people would recognize #1. I think 1 looks slapped together haphazardly.

Jack, that would get my ass landed in a German jail very quickly. icon_redface.gif

I'm partial to #3 myself. Subtle is always good icon_smile.gif

I would vote for #1 because it doesn't alter the shield (which is an important symbol). If your intent is to have it made for a trip to Germany, then it will be easily recognized for what it is without being unintentionally offensive to someone who is very patriotic.

My vote also goes for 3, but then again I'm the type who prefers subtle detail.

    I'm leaning towards 1.

Reasons I don't like the others:

#2: The skinny black outline of the bird just makes it look... meh. Also, the talons are still red. I'd say make it all an outline, or don't outline it at all....

#3: Which leads us into this one. The beak blends into the red of the rainbow flag.

#4 Again, problems with the beak/talons. I'm not sure if, by some law, they have to remain red... but it just doesn't look right directly next to the rainbow.

I do agree that 1 wouldn't be instantly recognizable as a German flag outside of Germany, but I still think it looks the best.

I like #3, too, but as for getting your ass landed in jail, that might be fun...or not!

Maybe you could make the beak yellow?

    Number one I think.

But, I'd increase the size of the Bundeswappen and move it to the left - it's a common technique in flags to make the insignia more recognizable when a flag flies, the part closer to the pole moving less. Should look good too.

Noticing that the beak and claws are about the same red as the rainbow red; the beak really gets lost against the red.

I'm not terribly keen on changing the beak and claw colours since they are somewhat linked to the red of the proper German flag itself; however, I could try changing them to the gold colour just to see how it handles.

Tazo has given a great idea (nothing prevents me from scaling the eagle/escutcheon larger on the rainbow flag background so that it is more noticeable).
