I'm a mechanical engineer who happens to be gay. I love physics and science. Engineering is a cool field, but I wonder sometimes where are the other gay engineers out there. They seem to be hard to find. I know I can't be the only one.

Anyone else see the space shuttle Atlantis launch last week? I thought it was cool how at 00:00:31 they halted operations then did a thorough check before continuing on the countdown icon_biggrin.gif

Oh and my mom is in business. She wanted us to be a doctor, or lawyer, or even a businessman. She got 2 engineers. She threatened to leave the country and never come back if my sister ever decides she too wants to be an engineer. Luckily, my sister went into Fashion Design icon_biggrin.gif

This topic comes up every so often. I'm a software engineer, and I used to be Director of Engineering for a large custom PCB manufacturing facility. Now, I own a software company.

Gay engineers are everywhere. Problem is that being a nerd seems to supplant sexuality most of the time. The technology is more of a turn-on than finding other gay engineers.

You'll be thrown into the other thousands and thousands of software engineers looking for work. The important question is, are you any good?

I'm an employed software engineer. Many people that I graduated college with (also software engineers) do not have jobs. If you're good at what you do, you'll find work. If you're not good at what you do (rhetorical; assess yourself honestly), then you need to know someone to get you a job.

I have a CGPA of 7.0. I know C, C++, Java, C#.NET, Databases, ColdFusion, Web related technologies etc. I am good at programming. I feel i can do better.
All i lack(albeit now) is the experience. I only have 1 year of corporate experience. Planning to get an ACE(Adobe Certified Expert) certification in ColdFusion 9 and SCJP. Also have plans of obtaining a Masters degree from a good university in US. Looking for specialization in Programming Language Theory, Formal Methods, Compiler Design. Have to see how everything pans out.
