I am amazed at the number of people who do not realize this. Paying for the insurance of the spouse and then being taxed for it as though it was income? Ludicrous!!!!!!!!

Yes, well, they have to "defend marriage" somehow, right? icon_rolleyes.gif

it's the american way. and yes, it is ludicrous. (how else is the 'right wing' going to 'defend' marriage? it's a crock of crap if you ask me. imputed income is not really earned income. period.

QTF! Exactly! The only reason I can think of, even though it is not at all possible to justify, is that the money toward the insurance is on a PRE-TAX basis, as most folks have it taken from the check. But this is STILL unequal because the heteros don't have to add the so called 'imputed income', but gay folks do. Ridiculous and a blatant end run around & slap in the face of the law.

You realize that the employer-paid portion is considered taxable income and is added to your taxable gross, so the cost can be quite substantial.

From a payroll perspective the whole thing is a massive headache.

The first-ever same-sex marriage license in this country (for two women, what a surprise) was signed by Cambridge's city clerk at 12:01 AM on the day marriage equality became law. The witnesses? Over 10,000 cheering spectators on the City Hall lawn and all the surrounding streets.

We now have our third out Gay mayor in a row, the initial one being an African-American man and probably therefore a nationwide first in that category. It only partly has to do with this town's being the "People's Republic." When constituents like who's representing them that's what matters in the voting booth. And it's not even that simple here, since we use the awesome Proportional Representation voting system and have a Council/Manager government. (Ten city councilors get voted in, then they in turn select who gets to be mayor.)
So this latest good news isn't a surprise, really.
YET there's only one Gay bar - for men; Go-go boys and porn clips, YEAH icon_cool.gif
And no gayborhood exists 'cause the need to stay separate isn't there.
I've cried tears of joy exactly three times in my life, and one of them was on the day "people like us" started getting hitched and all that love got shown.
By moving here I lucked out big time, even though I haven't met the right guy.
