Guys I have a question. When I do deadlift / stiff-legged deadlift on somedays I can feel a dull ache in my lowerback. Today is one of those days. I did deadlift first. Did Bulgarian split squats. Then I proceeded to stiff-legged deadlift. Whoa that stiff-legged deadlift did not feel right on my right lowerback. My trainer said that it's because my butt is not tight enough (ok haha laugh all you want), and my chin is the wrong position. But I don't have problem with when I do single legged stiff leg deadlift. What gives?!

...are there any exercises or remediating stretches that can help me? I like my dead lifts. How do you get a nice butt if you don't do them??????? But I also don't want to hurt myself.

Sounds like you need to work your core to strengthen it.
Deadlifts alone will not do that, as the core is only used to stabilize.

I, respectfully, strongly disagree. Deadlifts and squats are by far the best core exercises, without a doubt. icon_smile.gif

You're not only build a strong core, you also build a symmetrical, synchronized core that works in unison(lower back with abs, quads with hams). Most people seem more concerned aesthetics but functionality and health is important too. That balanced development will protect your joints and spine as well.

Hard to say. A common mistake is lifting too heavy( the ego element icon_smile.gif ) and compromising the form, assuming you already do the exercise with the correct form.

There's a big section in "Power to the People(Pavel Tsatsouline)" book regarding deadlifts, form etc.
I'd suggest reading that, plus some videos online.

For stretching, I also recommend a book by Pavel Tsatsouline, Relax into Stretching. The main take away point of it is that you should relax into stretching and not force an already stretched part.

In addition, you should research trigger points. All athletes should know about them.
