I was wondering if RJ would or does consider bowling a sport? I mean if golf is, why not bowling? Hmm? lol

I was in a gay bowling league way back when, and I'm thinking of going back to it this coming September (when the season here begins). And, not to toot my own horn (much), but I was pretty good (Rookie of the Year, 2002-03, avg.170). I think there were 22 teams that year. Oh, the team I was on, made first place! lol Sorry for bragging! icon_wink.gif

Oh, it's a sport all right. So is poker.

But maybe the question should be, "Are bowlers jocks?"

Well, it takes a modicum of skill, and a certain amount of dexterity.

Look at it this way. If driving really fast in a giant circle for a few hours can be called "sport", then rolling a 10 pound ball at a bunch of defenseless pins should be Olympic-level athleticism!

Sorry I don't consider it a sport. I call it a game of high skill though, but I don't call bowling, nascar, poker, and golf sports.

I do not consider bowling, poker, golf or fishing a sport.

    I see them as hobbies.

So, some of you don't consider bowling a sport, along with golf...yet golf has it's own section here on RJ.

Do the guys who think the above, think that RJ should remove the golf section, or put a bowling section in?

That's what I want to know!

(and if RJ puts a bowling section here, then I'll rejoin the local bowling league and post pics and stuff, but that won't happen til September)

Isn't a 'sport' anything you have to change your shoes to play?

My high school had men's and women's bowling teams. It was a winter sport same as basketball. They had JV and Varsity. You got letters for it.

So, at least in South Jersey, bowling is definitively a sport!

Badminton is also not listed here on RJ, but I sweat more playing badminton than I do playing any other sport. Neither is ultimate and that's definitely more of a sport than bowling.

And Bocci Ball. Where's that huh?

I like bowling. It requires good coordination and you need to be in somewhat decent shape to do it. Is golf more strenuous than bowling?
Bowling used to be a pastime for primarily working class people, so maybe it just got a bad rap.
