For once, a little part of me died inside when I saw it was from the onion.

Well played, Mr Zwiebel. Well played.

On did not have to look to know it was a gag, because vatican City would never ever change it's stance on same sex unions; never. if the Pope was to back such a thing, we would find him dead, in a short time afterwards, and a replacement in his place, to keep the Status Que.

But being secure in myself and sexuality, such things are not a worrie to I. Acceptance starts from within.

    Quo. It's status quo.

Although I wouldn't put it past them. Then again it's not like the da vinci code is real. Right?

LOL... but, at the risk of belaboring the point, it's worth taking it a step further and asking, why is it funny? Is it because the Vatican will never change its teaching on gay marriage? I don't think so. Maybe not soon, but it's inevitable considering the advance of scientific and medical opinion. I think this Onion piece is darkly funny because it shows how ridiculous it is to compare "public opinion" arguments, and ethical arguments. Gay marriage shouldn't be a political debate; it's an ethical debate. It's not about, "Look how 'likable' and 'normal' these people are; it's about, "Look, these people are human, so they deserve equal rights." Jus' sayin'.
