Got a preview of it this past weekend in Palm Springs and it is truly one of her best in years. Brace yourself for a HUGE summer dance hit called "Give It To Me" which is rumored to be the follow-up single to "4 Minutes".

I have it already. I love Madonna, but this one didn't do much for me at all. Especially 'Give it To Me'. All the Pharell produced tracks are the weaker ones to me, compared to the Timbaland/Justin ones.

I gotta admit, Im no huge Madonna fan. But my favorite album has to be Erotica. She was much better in her sluttier years!

Give It To Me is confirmed as the next single, the video is already done.

The album is AMAZING!!!! Her best work yet! I have it... and can't wait to have the actual physical CD in my hands next Tuesday!

Dance 2night is my favorite track off the record.
And just for Workoutbud... she taps back into her sluttiness icon_twisted.gif

I feel the opposite of yalemarine. My ears say the Pharrell tracks on Hard Candy sound light years ahead of the Timba-lake tracks. Pharrell really moved out of his usual zones for Madonna, especially on songs like Incredible and She's Not Me, which are structured more like mini suites than traditional pop songs. Give It to Me is a pretty driving summer jam - one for which you roll down the windows and crank up the volume/bass. Hard Candy finds Madonna truly frivolous and sexy again, a la Into the Groove without trying to preach about some sort of kabbalah self improvement undercurrent or what have you. She even sounds all squawky like her former disco bunny self on a couple of songs, although her deeper menopausal voice remains prevalent.

    I'd give it 9 out of 10.

It will take a lot to beat "Ray Of Light". Her last album was pretty good as well.

Looking forward to the next single, I already have "4 Minutes".

This CD is as good as Ray of Light, but in a very different way.

    SUCKS!!!!!
Madonna is getting rusty and old!!! SHe should actually sing and get away from pop type music by now. Christina aguilerra is so much more sophisticated and beautiful sounding.

I agree 100%. It is most certainly the Best of the Best (Madonna) at the top, a position, as Justin said, that Madonna is certainly accustomed to and enjoys!

Hard Candy will blow everyone away... and out of the water!

OKAY OKAY one more one more.

One of my OTHER fave tracks is She's Not Me, which i have been saying reminds me of Prince's work with Vanity/Apollonia 6... AND in the song she says "Wendy". WELL i just read this!

When fans will finally get their copy of the Hard Candy album in their players this weekend and next week they may wonder about the identity of the "Wendy" named by Madonna before the musical break in the song She's Not Me.

That "Wendy" is Wendy Melvoin, better know for playing with Lisa Coleman in the 80's with Prince and later forming the duo Wendy & Lisa. Wendy does a surprise appearance on Hard Candy giving the great touch of her guitar to She's Not Me.

That's cool. They type on the scans of the CD packaging at DrownedMadonna was too small for me to read most of the credits. I wondered if Pharrell was playing all those instruments on his songs or if some LA session folks were in there.

Can I just say that sales =/= good? Not that I'm not going to give the album a listen, but there are a lot of albums that sell a ridiculous amount but are still absolute shit.

I'm a big fan of Madonna's early work, and still think that's her best, so I'm probably not going to be among those who end up saying that this is her best. I was the same way with Janet Jackson's new album. I really enjoy the hell out of it, but it is certainly not her best work.

Love this album. I think Pharrell has the edge with his stuff, he kinda pushed Madonna in a different direction. Though Devil and Voice are pretty epic. Much more consistent than I thought it might be, and the producers managed to produce the material while still keeping it a Madonna record.
Give It To Me is going to be THE summer song!!

I agree that Ray of Light is Madonna at her best. I've been somewhat disappointed with every album since (not to say that I haven't enjoyed them). After a couple listens through Hard Candy, though, I think ROL might have some competition for the top spot!

Hard Candy is excellent. A great example of trend setting pop music. Pharrell's tracks really stand out on the album and sound fresher than Timbaland's (who's starting to become predictable).

OK just listened to the whole thing. I am a huge madonna fan, but I do not fall into the camp that tadores everything she does just because she is madonna. In fact, I think a lot of her stuff (especially in the early 2000s was not very good. without having spent much time on one track I will give this impression:

    1. i like it. Its cute. poppy.
    2. its no ray of light - let's get real. I thought Confessions was better overall. Though I think I like all the songs on this album, but did not like every song on confessions.
    3. I think she screwed up with only using two producers, espcially one being Timbaland. His work is way to predictable and sound the same after 10 years. The album lacks a diversity and depth that her previous work has.
3a. The Pharelle trax are SOOOOO much better than the JT and Timberland track. they fit her voice and style very well. I don't know why she does not play that collaboration up in interviews. I would love love love to have them do a whole album together.
3b. More bitching about Timbaland. I can't stand that drum corps sound. It has been done. I dont know what Madonna was thinking, especially after Nelly Furtado put out a similarly produced album (JT and Timb has been done)

So over all 3.75 out of 5 stars. I know I will grow to like it the more I listen to it. Let's pray for some more Pharell trax cause they are right where Madonna should be hitting artisticly and collaboratively.

The other day I watched her "Dress You Up" performance on you tube from her Like A Virgin Tour. She actually really sounded pretty good at that time...better than I remember. After reading everyone's input on the new cd, I'm anxious to hear it.

I actually think Timbo's sound has become predictable to the point of cliche. It was fresh when he used it for Missy Eliot's "I'm Really Hot" but now, just overused. I'm looking forward to M's new album...I'm sure it won't be RAY OF LIGHT, but good anyway.

Jakal - you are so right. actually, I liked it back around the time of Missy's first album, Supa dupa fly and, course, his work with aaliyah, nicole ray, genuine...

But its not really changed much...
