As a hopeless romantic, I would love to visit historic towns/ cities where you see charming quaint cottages and shops, etc.

Which ones in US & Canada have you been? Also if possible, please post photos or put in links. Thanks for sharing.

Nothing for me will ever compare to old Qu├ębec City (within the wallls) and beyond to the Plains of Abraham with the cannons along the ramparts overlooking the river.

Since colonization started on the East Coast, obviously many eastern cities and towns reflect that history. I grew up in Virginia where just about every town has preserved a few sites from colonial times.

Also, Virginia is a landmine for those who take great interest in the Civil War because there are historic battlefields out the ass here. Anyone who's into history or archaeology can have a lot of fun at the battlefields.

I grew up in a historic town (Kingston, founded 1673). Lots of old limestone buildings, Fort Henry, etc.. Quebec City is beautiful, but don't forget Montreal. It has a great old section of town. Lunenburg, Nova Scotia is also supposed to be great to visit (still have not got around to it).

If you like westerns, Butte, MT is like walking into a time capsule. Not "romantic" persay, but it's still a pretty cool town no less. In the winter there is a lot of skiing around the area.

One of my favorites is Beacon Hill in Boston

And Rockport, MA is a really cool, old, fisherman's village.
