I would recommend you to just wait for the Doctor's results, and do not look things up on Google or ask us for opinions.

I think you should be there for support, and keep calm yourself. It sounds kind of selfish to be questioning whether YOU should be freaking out, or not. Chances are, if something comes back in those results, he is going to be upset, and will need a helping hand one way or another.

is he into theatre? is it body putty that he is experimenting with and getting you to freak out?

Honestly... be there to support and hear him out.

His doc sounds like a quack. He's covered with weird growths, and the doc says, "Oh, it's nothing..."

    Second opinion time.

If you read what the OP said, you'd have seen the doctor said no such thing and that he is waiting for test results.

My advice is to wait for the results and see what the situation is. Worrying about it won't help either of you, but I know from experience that it's hard not to worry. I found a lump on the upper surface of one of my balls when I was 20 and told nobody about it besides my doctor. An ultrasound showed it was a cyst, which was a huge weight off of my mind as I was thinking worst case scenario. By all means, talk about your concerns (with him - he may well be terrified), but freaking out about it will do no good.
