One day I feel fat... the next day I feel skinny... then I feel both fat and skinny...

Do you guys suffer from this type of over critical self analysis?

On a daily basis, I only truly feel satisfied with my appearance right after an intense workout while the blood is flowing and I'm all pumped up.

I think it's pretty normal, you make noticeable gains and you just want MOAR!

Yeah a lot..but I'm rediculiously self critical in all aspects of my life

But I still think it's a made up syndrome, from people with small minds that need to catagorize and label all deviations and how they expect everyone to be, act and think like them.

Everyone's personality is composed of traits, basically tendancies and patterns in how they think and act.

    Two that spring to mind

Borderline personality disorder: extreme "black and white" thinking, instability in relationships, self-image, identity and behavior often leading to self-harm and impulsivity

Obsessive-compulsive personality disorder: characterized by rigid conformity to rules, moral codes and excessive orderliness.

These ones are only 'disorders' if they impeed a person's ability to get on with there living their lives...plenty of people have personality traits meaning they tend towards these but they don't control their lives

    An example would be narcissists

Some mornings I feel like I'm the Stay-Puft Marshmallow man.... lol.

But my own occasionally distorted self-image and how others see me are not always the same thing. ;)

I always feel fatter than I want to be.

I don't want to be bigger. I wouldn't fit into all my fabulous clothes then.

Yes, you ARE big...no question about that. BUT, in my opinion, the wrapping around all of those big muscles needs a little help. Perhaps you MIGHT work at taking better care of your skin between reps.

I probably shouldnt have used the term "bigorexia" because it is a form of body dismorphia and I dont have a disorder about it.

I think my question is about being so critical to yourself. 90% of the men on Realjock are in great shape and look great. We are a healthy bunch who are into exercise and nutrition. So why do we beat ourselves up so much? I have met men with GORGEOUS bodies who can get depressed because they aren't happy with it.

Straight guys dont do this as much, do they? I have a ton of straight, sort of "good ole boy" type friends that get fat, drink beer and just laze around and STILL think they can fuck any woman they find. I dont work out for looks... I LOVE the gym... I LOVE the feeling of pounding out reps with superhuman weight...

I just wish I knew how to let up on myself and stop being so critical.

Hey, you guys all look amazing so don't let yourself get you!

I guess the real problem with conditions such as anorexia, BDD or bigorexia is that the person is not and was never really satisfied with themselves from within -- and a perfectionist attitude propelled this problem.

I've always been told I'm too skinny etc but I'm now trying not to let that get to me. I want to love myself for who I am -- not what I look like -- and hopefully other people will start to see that too. Recently, I made up a little exercise for when I feel down about myself, and it's to recall every single amazing, generous, admirable person and remember why you loved them so much -- and those reasons were never for what they looked liked or how much they earnt etc. This then helps ease me from pressuring myself to look a certain way, because it proves that if you can love someone for who they are, then there will be other people that will love you for who you are, no matter what you look like. Once we start to accept who we are as people -- not as objects -- we won't feel the need to compare ourselves to others, which is the other underlying problem.

A slightly unorthodox way of handling this issue lol. Anyways, hope you guys feel better icon_smile.gif

    +1

LA makes me a little more self conscious about how I look, but 9 times out of 10, I know I'm neither fat nor skinny.

I think most of you think too hard on this subject. Once you've set a goal, just go for it. Why are you contemplating that you are not big enough? Well, go for it and get big. Do you think you will later on dislike yourself being big? oh well, you are big already. This feeling medically termed "bigorexia" is more like a psychological disorder. It's not for most of us who just want and need to get bigger because, right now, we aren't there yet. On the contrary, if you are already and seriously a huge muscular house and still feel this way, then, I think you are hot!! (Come on! stop feeling bad about yourself)

I completely agree with this. I see myself in the mirror after a workout, and I'm satisfied. Two hours later, not so much.

Occasionally, you have to give yourself a break, though.
