Okay, this isn't at all meant to be a slam against leather but I don't get it. I suppose any fetish is hard to explain, but I don't really understand what it is about leather paraphernalia that guys like. Leather turns me on as much as vaginas. But look forward to understanding it better. icon_smile.gif

I'm eagerly anticipating some answers too. I've been around a lot of years and I'm still totally in the dark. I know to some it suggests bondage and discipline, and to that extent it surely turns me off [I'm a lover, not a fighter. LOL]
But there's something more than that for a lot of guys, so I'm waiting with baited breath !

From what barracuda68 wrote, going to a leather bar would leave him even more perplexed.

I have. I feel like I'm in a straight bar watching a sexual dynamic on another level. Not to offend, but when I see guys dressed in chaps or that leather cross thing on their chest, it just looks silly to me. I see nothing sexual at all about it. Is it the leather itself that's a turnon? Or the guy in leather?

Leather is a durable and flexible material created via the tanning of putrescible animal rawhide and skin, primarily cattlehide. It can be produced through different manufacturing processes, ranging from cottage industry to heavy industry.

I have found that most guys who are into leather are extremely nice guys. I'm sure that if you struck up a conversation with one, they would gladly explain it to you. I don't know all of the ins and outs of it, but I have friends who do.

I think that it's not just the look of the harness that the guy is wearing across his chest. It is what you can do with it that is a turn on. icon_biggrin.gif

There's really nothing to explain about leather. Either you're into it or you're not. icon_wink.gif

Not a leather guy here either, but here goes:

Once upon a time, before there was the internet, before there were gay sports teams, gay gyms, gay choruses, gay men had 2 choices:

    Be fem or be leather.

Those were the only 2 'scenes'. Bars, Clubs or Discos on one side; leather-bars on the other.

Masculine guys had to invest in leather-wear if they wanted to meet other masc. guys in leather bars. The leather-scene also allowed their members to age, in contrast to the pretty 'boys' on the other side.

I think leather developed for men who couldn't identify with the pretty-boy crowd. The images from Marlon Brando in "the Wild One" http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047677/ set the tone for the fashions. All the other leather-wear came later because the leather guys wanted to be pretty, too.

I'm not into the leather scene but leather pants on a hot looking guy is the sexiest thing.

Watch Cruising starring Al Pacino. It's about a serial killer in the NYC leather community in the late '70's.

Cruising - now that was a strange movie.

I like the fake jail cells in leather bars. Is that strange?icon_eek.gif

Being that I'm hairy and 35, stereotypically I'm supposed to be into leather but I don't get it at all either. I hope someone will let us know. Maybe it's a texture thing or an animal thing?

Dated a very nice guy that was very into leather. I also didn't get it and still don't get the fetish. Though I did buy a leather vest so that he wouldn't get looked down on for dating someone not in the "club."

I think some guys can look hot in some leather but not the full-out costume like stuff you see in some bars. But to each their own.

PS-We broke up mostly because I couldn't take listening to all of the inside politics of the new/old leather scene in San Francisco anymore.

It is a number of things - and does not necessarily need to be linked to BDSM.

Although there is significant crossover between the two ideas.

I.m not a total fetishist with it, but I do like leather for the texture, the smell, and because it looks damn good when fitted correctly on a guy.

Everyone has their kinks. But I do wonder why the leather community has a flag. I meant when other fetishes like military or older vs young dont have flags.

You're evil! Leather is cool don't think the head to toe leather thing is cool, but jackets and pants are cool plus boots/shoes. The underwear, socks, shirts, etc. not really. as for the harness junk only on the right guys its good on others not so much.

Forgot to mention, no I'm not a leather pride kind of guy cause that kink stuff with leather ain't me icon_razz.gif

    I like understatement.

If I go to the Eagle "in code", I'll be wearing black denim jeans, heavy leather boots, and a leather armband on my left arm.

Probably not gonna do much more than that, lol.
