ALL religion should be outlawed.

Yes I typed that right. It's how I feel. Religion is nothing but a bunch of shit written by world leaders to control the masses. It's outdated, overused, rewritten to the point that it no longer has any of the original meaning, and serves no useful purpose in society.

There is no god...maybe a creator, but no "god" as the religions claim.

100% of the world's major conflicts have been started over religion.
100% of genocide is a result of religion.
100% of hatred stems from religion.

Why is this allowed to continue?

Yeah I know...some will say "but it's only the extremists." FUCK THAT! NO IT'S NOT! It's the world leaders.

    ^Nazi Germany, the Holocaust, revisited...because of...RELIGION!

I'm typing this with tears in my eyes because of the gays that are likely going to be killed now...because of...RELIGION!

    This shit needs to stop!

And don't try to tell me that "your" religion is peaceful. Maybe it is to you; but open your fucking eyes and see what's happening because of your "peaceful" religion. It's fucking killing people...your own people...by the 1000's.

if we didn't have religion than 100% of those things would be started by personal beliefs or other disagreements. religion has as much power as you give it.

I used to think that, but realized that thinking is nothing but our justification for keeping religion alive because it's been ingrained into our heads to the point that people just won't stop believing it...regardless of how many people it kills.

If it weren't for religion there would be no genocide such as what we're seeing unfold now.
If it weren't for religion there would never have been a Holocaust.

Don't believe me? Name one mass slaughter that was started over a personal belief or disagreement. I dare ya. It's never happened.

so sympathetic, but you´re wrong. Ideology, sure, but simply narrowing it down to religion? Explain the massacres in China and Russia. that was communist ideology, not religion, as shitty as religion is.

It's happened before. Albania outlawed all religions during communist times. It's the only country to have officially been an atheist state. And that didn't work out too well. Places like the USSR, China, North Korea, and other socialist states weren't officially atheist on paper. They had this facade of "religious freedom" though in practice they persecuted many religious people and promoted atheism anyway.

And yet I'm agnostic. I find religion to be nonsense and unnecessary, but I don't believe in taking away people's freedom to believe in that superstitious crap. It's their choice. The government shouldn't meddle with people's personal lives. I mean, we want them out of our bedroom when it comes to sex, no?

As someone that is not religious what so ever.. I disagree.

I agree that religion may be the cause of more bad than good BUT unfortunately there are a lot of people that need a book to tell the difference between right and wrong. They need the hope that it gives them, and the comfort that there is something after you die. I need none of this and the main reason I disagree is because the government has no business telling people what to believe or not believe. Just like it has no business telling one group of people they can't get married... (because of an idea based on A RELIGION).

I do agree with many of your points though. People are lemmings and need something to follow.

For yous. That is no more shortsighted and hateful than Westboro people, who are also full of hate. I am not religus, but as a Gold card Homosexual, who has also lived my whole youth and adult life as an Out Aussie Poofter, and secure within my sexuality.

America is a Christain country that is keeping religion alive in Europe, were it was dying. The Mormons that are now a world religion and the Born agins are not going away anytime soon. I suppose if you don't like it you can always move.

RV you may struggle now as an out bisexual living the gay life style, with now only half equality, were for most of your life you lived as a breeding hetrosexual with full benefits, and you did benifit, but you made the life style choice to give half of that up, so to me a Gold Card Gay, a pure homosexual; the real thing who has always lived life as a poofter and supported this unlike you. To me you are still way ahead and have very little to birch about, considering you gave up half your equality, something I as a poofter have never had, like you; full equality. So please stop playing the victom, and pretending you are one of us, as by doing so you take away from us what we have never had and you have, and this is why bi does not = Gay.
    Have a nice day.

I strongly disagree with this post. I am proud to say that I am a Christian, and I always will be. It is because of him I am still alive today. He has helped me overcome suicide numerous times, and last night saved my life from what would have been a deadly car crash if the airbags did not go off. I know alot of people are going to hate me for posting my Christian beliefs. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I believe and always will believe God is real and he is helping me to become a better person.

Lets not over look the fact I not only lived though the gay plauge, when so many fleed hid and did nothing to help, as well died. Where I witnessed first hand other gay and bi men cutting human life short, depriving young men of their youth. Just because they did not want to deprive their dick of the party. No they put their dick before the well beging of another brother.

A gun to the head would of been kinder to them.

So maybe you need to step down off your pedestal, and realise gay history is no kinder than the religus one. We are not without our dark past too.

yes religion may say we need to turn it off, and many of the gay left are no kinder than many religions, thus no better.

Out of curiosity, why do you still believe in the very thing that keeps killing people? Do you have any idea how many of us were/are suicidal because of what religion has "taught" us? How can you still believe in something that would have YOU killed, just for being born the way you are?

Another peeve of religion: It's the most segregated "community" on earth. There are still white churches, black churches, Asian churches, etc. etc. etc. How can you believe in something that still believes in segregation and hatred of those who are different?

I used to be extremely religious...grew up a member of the Church Of Christ, and would vehemently defend religion at all costs. Then as it became clear that this religion I was fighting for was the primary reason for my suicidal tendencies (after realizing I'm gay), the transition to non-believer started. I just can't bring myself to believe in something that would have me killed for being born.

I tried a few other routes before giving up on religion...like visiting other churches. They all shared the same belief: Kill (or reform) gays.

Even today, with all the struggle put forth by gays to be accepted in churches, the percentage of churches that accept us (aside from 'gay' churches) is still extremely small.

So now I beg the question: Which religion is right? The one that says kill gays, or the few that have been amended to remove that part?

That's where my hatred comes from. I'm sorry, but this religion you believe in is the same religion that keeps killing us; and I'm fucking tired of it.

Do you not realise that homosexuality does not come with a book of rules which tell gay people to go forth and ruin humanity. The same cannot be said about the most popular religions in our world.

@cjs176, you do not necessarily have to be a christian to believe in a god. To my knowledge, a christian is someone who is not supposed to condone homosexuality.

Thanks for your very candid response and I agree that the sins of many formalized religions are overwhelming. I have been hearing this all of my life -- that gays are bad, unholy, inferior, depraved, etc. etc. I have never subscribed to such lies because I know the truth about myself and know that I am good. It's the same as someone spouting out lies about me because it's simply their untruthful belief rather than any bearing on reality. Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and other religions have certainly gotten it wrong were gays are concerned.

I wouldn't give up on my higher beliefs and good works simply because a particular religious sect does not tell the truth. I would hate to see what the state of affairs would be with no religions; they do serve a great purpose for the most part. If we were to discard religion we might as well discard civil law and resort to anarchy. Most of our basic laws come from religion. Peace be with you my friend.

I am curious on why a thread of this topic suddenly exploded on to this forum.
Could it have been inspired by the revelation that the 90+ Norwegians were shot down by a fanatical right winger, Anders Breivik, who called himself a fundamental Christian? What make me see the connection is the timing of this thread with the murders in Norway.
Sure, I agree fully that this senseless killing was done in the name of religion.
But would Jesus Christ, in whose name the killings were carried out, honour such a person?
Did Christ himself killed anyone who rejected him?
Did he instruct any of his followers to judge anyone who rejected their teachings? To ask such questions alone answers them.
I have a faith in the Saviourhood of Jesus Christ. This is not a religion. It is a relationship with God, very much like the love between two close friends. This faith does not motivate me to hate, let alone harm.
The first religious fanatic recorded in human history was Cain, firstborn son of Adam and Eve. Through religion he killed his younger sibling, because the latter had a true faith in God.
This pattern has been going on ever since, unchanged, to the present day.

By your logic, you should be questioning why EVERY thread "suddenly" exploded on to this forum. And then you should find connections between these all threads and current events.

I don't know whether jesus would honor such a person (neither do you). You don't know whether jesus killed anyone who rejected him either. And lastly, you do not know whether he instructed any of his so-called followers to judge anyone. So, to ask such questions and expect any proper answer is, well, silly.

Where was this act of said religious fanatic recorded? I wonder if it was in the same (or similar) book as the one that condemns homosexuality. icon_confused.gif

If the "good book" is truly a "good book" then why does it lie?
How can you say you believe in god's word, then turn around and say that part of it is wrong?
According to the bible I read, it says not to add nor subtract from it.
In other words: If you believe it in part, you must believe it in whole or be doomed to hell fire...allegedly.
