Puppies in the store? Don't walk in the door!

Please consider boycotting stores that sell puppies. Our shelters are extremely overpopulated and most of these puppies come from puppy mills. Each time someone buys a puppy, a homeless dog is killed in it's place. Boycotting these stores will send a strong message that we're sick of this cruel practice.

If there's less demand, they won't be bred.

Also, there are breed-specific rescue organizations that have fantastic dogs. Often a dog is given up because of problems with the family, not the dog. The rescue organizations I know get to know their dogs very well and are motivated to find the best fit for a family.

I've always gotten shelter dogs. With the one exception of going directly to a private breeder of miniature dachshunds, where I could see for myself their conditions. And know with whom I was dealing. See the litter for myself, and make a choice.

Yes, but buying from a breeder only feeds the overpopulation problem.
