I’ve been applying all over looking for a good research assistant entry level job in the microbiology/genetics/biology field and yet to have any luck. Can anyone help…happy to move anywhere but trying to stay in cooler year round climate.

Are you still in school? Maybe your department has some leads. Or are you a member of a campus club that pertains to your field of study? It's not uncommon for alumni to contact their old schools to recruit.

How many years did you spend working in your university's lab? If you made any connections while working there, ask them for recommendations on how to get started in the field. That's what you worked there for! (If you didn't work in your school's lab, you're going to have a much tougher time finding work. Data entry is an easy job to hold while you're looking though, and easy to give a week or two's notice when you find something.)

Do you have a specific area of research you're most interested in?

I graduated back in May from a very small (less then 1000 students) private college with a BS in biology BA in chemistry.

Yes I worked for one of my college labs which is not an easy job to get and even harder job to do. Also planned and carried out a semester long research study in microbiology. I know my way around the lab and can do most lab work without assistance.

Really want to get into microbiology or a genetics lab (more plant phenotypic/growth and development work)

Have you tried applying to NASA and private space companies? They're in development stage of figuring out how to grow food in extraterrestrial environments (moon and Mars).
