    Hey Guys,

From reading the forums, it's common for members to have cats &/or dogs as pets for companionship.

I have two pet cockatiels which are very tame and affectionate (basically they are the kids of the household). Just wondering if there are any other guys on RJ that have a bird/s as pets for companionship and what type you have?

I am constantly finding wild birds in need of help. Baby birds, hurt birds, bird eggs, I think I might be a bird whisper.

Young female African Gray. Talks and sings all day long. The things she comes up with are extremely funny. Gives commands to my dog, who ignores her.

They are both long-shaft finches. There is closeup of these kind of birds. (these are not mine. My birds gets terrified when there is a strange object such as camera near them. These look just like my finches though)

My sister has like 8 birds? Every time I visit her I get a headache from all the racket, made worse by the 3 dogs she has managed to acquire over the years. I think I will skip birds when I get a house, and just stick with dogs.

He's potty trained to go to the bathroom only at his cages so we let him fly around as he pleases.

I'm glad you like your birds. My sister has two cockatiels and the rest of my family and I HATE them. They're dirty, they fling food out of the cage (so we are vacuuming up after them constantly), they crap everywhere, they're loud, they won't shut up... Ok I'll stop my rant. Sorry, but we've had all sorts of pets in our house and the birds are by far the worst.

    I had a Hahn's Macaw Hahns_Macaw1.jpg

and a Yellow Crowned Amazon yellow-front-amazon.jpg

My dad somehow managed to allow my Hahn's to escape last year when I was away at college. I was proper pissed at him.

Parrots are awesome pets. They're very smart and playful.

    I have a total of 10 parrot/parakeet-type birds.
They all each have very unique personalities that I feel like I'm living with 10 different people. lol

The oldest is a rescue green cheek conure. She's pushing 9 years old now. She doesn't like women and doesn't like it when I take her out of her cage, but at the same time doesn't like to stay in her cage.icon_confused.gif

The next oldest one is my budgie, Chibi. He's very independent and does his own thing and flies back to his cage after he's done.

I also have 3 lovebirds who squabble over everything. 2 of them are apparently gay coupled. the third one is a female who tries to get between them. (I had them all sexed by a breeder, that's how we found out the 2 pair was a gay pair). They're all tame and I play wit them when they're not fighting over my shoulder.

I have a female indian ringneck parakeet and a male african ringneck parakeet.
There's also Alex, my cockatiel. She's very sweet and affectionate but also grouchy when she doesn't want to be bothered with.

    ....lol not done yet.

and I have 2 parrotlets. Both of whom lost their mates, but they ended up pairing off. They don't care a world about what goes on around them nor do they care much for me. lol.

I've had all of them since they were at least 12 weeks old. So they're all rather tame and sweet, except for the conure, whom i inherited from a cop who could no longer keep her. She's just very possessive.

So, now that spring has sprung, the damned peacocks aren't cleaning up the scratch I throw out for them any more. And the wild turkeys have found it. I got wild toms fighting each other in my yard all morning now. Even though I stopped putting out the scratch. At least their weird noises aren't quite as obnoxious as the peacocks. The dogs aren't even interested in them any more.
