Online Reviews and gyms...do they matter?

I was curious if anybody here reads or relies on online reviews of gyms they go to or plan on joining. I want to review a gym that is going to open. The guy who owns it is a homophobic a-hole, and that's putting it lightly. I want to let other gay people know about this man's casual use of the word faggot directed at gay people, as well as other homophobic things. I don't want gay people to spend money at this gym.

Is this effective? I want to go to a place like yelp.com. Has anybody ever used a reviewer like this?

I always believe everything I read from anonymous people on the internet.

PS: Yelp will delete your review if you haven't actually been to the place.

That's the kind of gym EVERY gay guy needs to join, just to fuck with his head.
Then when he gets pissed and runs them all off, he'll have to shut down cause that was the bulk of his income. icon_cool.gif

The older I get the more vocal I am about business and services. There are gyms all over the place. Let people know but do it in a respectable way if you don't have proof you are damaging someones business and that could be a big fight.
I send notes to my apartment complex, my gym, to restaurants; more because I live in a part of town where there aren't a lot of "chain" stores. I do it to point out the good and the bad. The gym I was going to, which I have always loved, started going down hill. I wrote to the management and owner and in 48 hours there was new desk staff, and it had been cleaned.

Speak out and speak up. This country has become a wishy-washy, someone else will do it society. That is why we have as many government issues as we do.

Do you know other people who have the same experience with him as you? If you all do it, it will have more of an impact. One review can come off as just an angry person. But several will have an impact.

I have proof. I planned on doing it in a very effective, smart way. Even if one gay person says "I won't go to that gym" that's enough for me.

Yes. The douchbaggery of this guy and his friends echos that of Entourage.

It's just the principle. I don't want this guy exploiting gay men.

I pay no attention to online reviews.

the majority appear to be people with an axe to grind and unrealistic expectations, therefore are not in any way valid.

We live in a world of entitlement, and it's not very pretty.

I'm in the process of moving, so I've been gym-shopping lately. I do take some yelp reviews seriously if they come across as being unbiased and objective. Just by how they are written, you can tell that some reviews are written by bitter customers or undercover promoters of the business.

Yeah. I'm not bitter, I just don't feel some anti-gay bigot should take money from gay men. Am I wrong with how I feel?

    No.
It's your feeling, so it can't be right or wrong. It just is.

But, you aren't the supreme authority, therefore it's really not your place to decide how others spend their money.

If his behavior is as inappropriate as you say, others will realise it quickly enough and leave his gym.

The sickest part is though he won't act this way to their face. I don't know, I just hope that what goes around comes around.

Lol...drag queens too. Maybe his gym can become a hookup spot. Cruise Central. Gang bangs, orgies, blow jobs everywhere, double penetration, okay, Craigslist would be a better option.

I say go for it...it needs to be known. One of the gyms I go to when im in Louisville is a bit pricey...but very supportive of the community. The owner is straight as a board...but has openly gay employees and welcomes gay members. He scored major points when he dressed down a paying member who referred to other members P90X routine as "looking totally gay".

No, this guy is the complete opposite. I think he's gay too. I am liking the idea of planting Craigslist ads of guys looking to hook up there. I honestly don't want gay people giving him a dime. I'll be smart about it.

Haha, that would be great. But, no. Personal level as in have I been called a f- king faggot by this guy? Yes. Have you too? Probably. Most issues like this are usually personal.
