I'm no fan of Glenn Beck but I think he was expressing that he was disturbed there would be a camp for advancing a particular political ideology for children in the first place -- likening it to hitler-youth brainwashing.

Although in all fairness, aren't there camps for young democrats and republicans as well?

I don't think he was disrespecting the victims.

He's a douche bag and he was (again) trying to link Leftists with Nazis and in so doing he's (again) disgraced himself and proven that he's a delusional lunatic.

It wasn't a camp for children; most of those attending were in their upper teens; at least one was planning to run for office soon.

Using kids and wrapping them up in any sort of indoctrination that involves hero-worship, however well intended.... can be pretty creepy.

I agree. Creepiness recognizes its own brand.

http://www.cnn.com/2011/POLITICS/07/25/beck.norway/index.htmlHowever, politically-oriented camps are being organized in several U.S. states by chapters of the "9/12 Project" -- an organization founded by Beck himself in 2009.

The Colorado 9/12 Project hosted a "Patriot Camp" for kids in grades 1-5 earlier this month, featuring programs on "our Constitution, the Founding Fathers, and the values and principles that are the cornerstones of our nation."

And in August, the Danville, Kentucky, chapter is holding a "Vacation Liberty School" that organizers pledge "will help your children understand where we came from. Understand where we went wrong. Understand where the fork in the road was, and which path we should have taken."

what's even more relevant is every church, temple and mosque that brain-washes children from the day they are born. those are the true ideologies that are poisoning society.

Sounds more like a "who's going to be somebody in the Labor Party" greet-n-meet summer camp than an indoctrination camp--those who attend already seem to espouse Labor political views.

You can't "indoctrinate" people who already know what they want.
http://www.newsinenglish.no/2011/07/21/labours-summer-camp-opens/Around 1,000 young supporters of Norway’s Labour Party were making their way over to Utøya this week, an island in the Tyrifjord that’s often viewed as an incubator for future Labour Party leaders. Detractors call it a breeding ground for a relatively small clique of would-be power mongers.

The summer camp for members of Labour’s youth group AUF (Arbeidernes ungdomsfylking) has launched the political careers of many a Labour Party leader. Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was a fixture at the camp in his youth and remains keen to visit every summer. Both he, Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre and former Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland were due to make appearances at this year’s camp during its five-day run that began Wednesday.

Eskil Pedersen, current AUF leader, told newspaper Dagsavisen that this year’s camp will include speeches and debate over the upcoming municipal elections in Norway, the rival Conservative Party’s current policies, the even more conservative Progress Party’s asylum policies and the state of Norwegian schools. The latter is traditionally the issue of most interest to the young politically minded AUF members.

Pedersen, quite possibly a future Labour Party leader or government minister himself if Labour keeps winning elections, said the “best thing” about the camp is “meeting lots of folks who have the same values as you do.” Newspaper Vårt Land, however, recently put another slant on the Utøya camp, reporting that the Labour Party historically is run by a tight network of politicians linked by family relations, marriage and friendships who also have a tendency to take on key roles not only in government but in business and Norway’s powerful bureaucracy as well. Many tend to meet in their youth on the island midway between Oslo and Hønefoss.

Other media cited Utøya as “the glue in the Labour movement.” Events will run through Sunday, and the weather forecast called for pouring rain.

Sound like any Tea Party gatherings you know?

In and of themselves, the camps sound good, i.e. teaching history, but would be interesting to see the curricula used in those camp sessions.

Glenn Beck's source for history has been this Dave Barton (no relation to the gym franchise) of Wallbuilders, Inc. a group dedicated toward presenting history in a Christian Dominionist vein.

For those of you who live in fear of America becoming a "Theocracy", (technically, they seek to create a "theonomy") ... these are the folks to watch out for.

They believe in interpreting the Constitution in light of their extremely social conservative interpretation of the Bible, which includes sentencing LGBT folks to death, killing Wiccans, and murdering disobedient children who talk back to their parents.

They make the WBC bigots seem like a gay dinner party by comparison.

Not to mention the fact that this looks like a private, voluntary, program while the hitler thing was part of their curriculum...

Norway is devastated by a random act of mass violence that involved a fraction of the losses on 911 . Norways losses were the result of a hateful psychopath who doesn't have a radio show. Why is the opinion of a hateful psychopath who DOES have a radio show in any way relevant?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but don't many political organizations have youth camps? Or numerous meetings throughout the year? I have a friend in Ottawa who is a member of the monarchist group and they meet numerous times each year to discuss monarchy related events as they pertain to Canada and the world.

Because Beck has a right-wing audience in the US who believes what he says.

National Socialist German Workers' Party = Nazi

Sorry guys, but facts is facts. I realize most guys here from the US are gubment edumikated sheep, and let the "Progressive Talking Points" change history, but the douche bag is right.

The Nazi's were Socialist. The Nazi's hate homosexuals. Therefore if you go by the triangulation logic rampant on this site, you have to equate that Socialist hate fags, so all the kids at the camp hated fags. icon_rolleyes.gif

You guys make it too easy for Beck to tweak you. LOL!

Personally, I see his attack as being related to the fact that the Labour Party is a left-leaning party. I could be wrong, but that's how I'm viewing it currently.

Now the only way this would resemble a Hitler Youth rally is if the teens started to salute Stoltenberg, hold mass rallies on downtown Oslo, and film artful and cinematic films at sports stadiums featuring blond, blue-eyed Norwegians. icon_lol.gif

The Nazis were not socialists. They infiltrated the socialist party and turned it into a fascist party and then engaged in genocide. To associate that with socialism is historically inaccurate.
