    1) “The NCHSR’s Trends in Behaviour 2009 reports that approximately one in two
participants in the periodic surveys report having engaged in any unprotected anal
    intercourse (UAIC)…

    2) “The Myriad Project: "In the last six months, 43% of men have had unprotected sex
with a casual partner." “Over 1,300 men took part in the survey. 90% of participants
    described themselves as gay men…”

    3) “The Health in Men and Positive Health Studies: "At every round of data collection,
between 40% and 50% of HIV-positive respondents had had some UAIC in the six
    months prior to interview…”

    4) “The Sydney Gay Community Periodic Survey (SGCPS) 2009 shows that UAIC has
    increased since 2008…”

    5) “HIV testing rates are falling…”

    6) “Relative to population size, NSW always has the highest rate of HIV diagnoses…”

    7) “The prevalence of HIV infection in inner Sydney is equivalent to sub-Saharan Africa
(about 18%) but if it’s in Africa it’s called a ‘pandemic’ while in Sydney it’s ‘rates are
    stable’...”

icon_cool.gif “One in two gay guys bareback with strangers…”

    9) “All STI's have risen sharply in Sydney, for example, the number of syphilis cases in
gay men in inner-city Sydney has spiked and chlamydia rose from 3,489 cases in 2000
to 13,994 cases in 2008. Syphilis increases the amount of HIV virus in the sperm and
with the rise in barebacking to about one in two casual encounters, its incredible that
    ‘HIV rates remain stable.’”

    That's shocking!
Almost 2 over 10 gay men are HIV+, and half of the gay men population doesn't use condom strictly.

That seems scary... I really regret the few times I have done it bareback and am very grateful that nothing happened to me then. I hope other people realize what a mistake that is in time icon_smile.gif

Doesn't surprise me whatsoever, I think it is even worse than that, these are people that have actually been tested.

Studies are sometimes done with an agenda. The results can be worded to sound more dramatic, and the pool can be made into a less than accurate cross section of society.

I participated a few of the surveys of ACON before. They usually hand those questionnaires in a few gay bars or some gay events. I would say it is actually quite reliable.

My questions is the chances that one encounter someone who is HIV positive in a casual sex situation is rather high. (almost 1 over 5)! This is somehow so scary!

I might starting only have sex with myself from now on!icon_eek.gif

MuchMoreThanMuscle saidDang, so can one out of two men who do not wear condoms be considered as 50%? That is alarming.

Sounds like the boys down under are freaky lil' bitchuz.

The queens of Sydney have long had that reputation of being shallow, superficial bitchuz.

This must of been the whole purpose of the 80s and 90s. I being a survivor. who stood by the gay community during the Gay plauge era, when so many hid and did nothing to help as well died, or was that murded? Must make one one of the fittest, of natural selection. because I survived when so many did not.

It is well known that there is a high prevalence of risk behavior amongst the young gay population here. It is believed that a reason for this is because they haven't experienced the HIV epidemic of older gays who lived through the 80s and 90s with friends and acquaintances dying - so they are more complacent when it comes to sex.
