I'm spending the coming two weeks in Dusseldorf, Germany, for work, and the interim weekend in Cologne (site of Gay Games 2010) for fun.

    (1) I'd be interested and grateful to hear any suggestions you (collectively) might have for "must see" destinations -- touristic, troublesome (read that as you may), or otherwise.

    (2) Anyone know of "open gym" volleyball in either city during the summer?

    (3) And if you live in either city, and want to catch a drink, let me know.

Haven't been and don't know, but Cologne has a "Gay Cologne" booklet. They were distributing them last year at the Gay Games. I think I've got some extras if you want me to (snail) mail you one.

In Cologne, gay life is centered around the Alter Markt...the old market. It is clearly located on any tourist map of the city. Get there and you can just walk from bar to bar.

Here is an online map. http://tinyurl.com/2hlfdm
Increase the size to 200 OR 400 and you will find the Alter Markt near the number 42. Or look just to the left of the river about half way between the two upper bridges.

Dont try to go make out behind any of the nearby churches. They are all wired with motion detectors that activate the flood lights...hmmm....how do I know this?

For sites to see, if you are down in the Alter Markt anyway and if architecture is of interest...you can visit some of the finest examples of romanesque architecture in the churches right in the neighborhood. The Cologne cathedral of course is a good example of gothic architecture.

D'dorf has much less gay life. I can only remember that some of the gay bars were down by the river.

The Cathedral, massive and totally magnificent...and this suggestion is from a decidedly NON-religious individual/traveler.
